Amber Heard seems to be moving forward with her life following her widely publicized defamation lawsuit with her former husband, Johnny Depp.

The couple first crossed paths in 2009, tied the knot in 2015, and ended their marriage in 2017.

The contention began in 2018 when Heard published an op-ed in the Washington Post titled: "I spoke up against sexual violence – and faced our culture's wrath. That has to change."

In the article, while she did not mention Depp by name, his attorneys argued that the implications of the piece falsely suggested that he had physically and sexually abused Heard during their relationship.

In response to the lawsuit Depp filed against her in 2022 for defamation, Heard counter-sued, accusing Depp of orchestrating a 'smear campaign' against her.

Following nearly three weeks of legal proceedings in Virginia, USA, Depp's lawyers successfully persuaded the jury that Heard's 2018 publication was defamatory.

Depp received a $15 million (£12 million) award, which was later reduced to $10.35 million (£8.27 million) by Judge Penny Azcarate.

In a separate decision, Heard was awarded $2 million (£1.6 million) in damages for her counterclaim.

By 2024, the "Aquaman" actress, aged 38, has seemingly moved past the intense legal battle by relocating outside of the US shortly after the trial concluded.

Heard has reportedly settled in Mallorca, Spain, intending to begin anew with her daughter.

Locating her might prove difficult, as El Diario de Mallorca reported that she has adopted a new name.

According to various sources, the Hollywood actress now uses the name Martha Jane Cannary, the birth name of the legendary American frontierswoman Calamity Jane.

Fluent in Spanish, Heard expressed her fondness for her new surroundings in 2023, telling reporters how much she enjoys her new life.

"The choice of this identity, which appears at the entrance of her new Mallorcan home, draws much attention," El Diario de Mallorca noted.

"Especially as Johnny Depp always maintained that his family trace their roots to ancient Native American tribes and that his great-great-grandmother was Cherokee."

"She is focused on raising her daughter," a source told PEOPLE in 2022. "She spends every day with her girl. They stroll around, visit parks and enjoy family time. Amber is a great mom."

Two years later, at the age of 61, Depp is reportedly doing well.

"Johnny is in a good place," a source told US Weekly. "He really feels at home in London. He's happy and busy. There's been a weight lifted."
