Anthony Bourdain is known (and admired) for his love of good food and trying new dishes. Although the legend is not among us anymore, you can still learn from him.
Anthony traveled the world and tried meals from all over, even going as far as to eat what we would call disgusting.
Still, he developed a fine pallet and knew what good food tasted like.
As such, there is no better guide than Anthony to show us the way to enjoying delicious food.
The Anthony Bourdain Food Trail
After Anthony passed away in 2018, New Jersey created the Anthony Bourdain Food Trail.
This trail spotlights the restaurants that the chef featured in his TV show, 'Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown".
Today, you can also visit those restaurants that gave Anthony nostalgic feelings when he visited them years after eating there.
These restaurants were the food places of his youth.
All but one of the restaurants (Tony & Ruth Steaks in Camden) still offer visitors the food trail experience.
Dock's Oyster House
The owner of Dock's Oyster House, Harry 'call me Dock' Dougherty was the first person to open a seafood restaurant in Atlantic City.
That was back in 1897 and the location has since changed and the restaurant expanded.
However, almost everything else has remained the same. Anthony loved the lobster stuffed with crab meat, freshly shucked oysters, and pommes soufflés at Dock's Oyster House.

Hiram's Roadstand
This is the restaurant that Anthony's family visited whenever his mother, Gladys, was not in the mood to cook.
They would drive from Leonia, where their home was, to Fort Lee for deep-fried hot dogs that raptured while frying in oil.
Hiram's Roadstand is also known for its chili, which you find on chili dogs and fries.
Here, Anthony would enjoy a cheeseburger, fries and two hot dogs.

James' Original Salt Water Taffy
Although not one for sweets, Anthony appreciated the taste of treats on offer from this Atlantic City shop.
You can find all kinds of flavored taffy there such as chocolate, molasses, vanilla and even pina colada.

Barnegat Lighthouse
Situated on Long Beach Island, Barnegat Lighthouse is not an official trail stop.
However, it is a place where Anthony spent a lot of time with his family. Here, they would enjoy fried clams.
It is also the place where Anthony experienced his first kiss.

Kubel's
This tavern has a lot of history as the oldest one on Long Beach Island. It specializes in fresh seafood and offers delicious clams.
Anthony would indulge in clam chowder, fish and chips, steamed garlic clams and fried clam strips at Kubel's.
The staff at the tavern will even share stories of Anthony's time at the tavern if that's something you'd like to hear about.

Donkey's Place
Anthony feels that the cheesesteak at Donkey's Place should be a national landmark and it's a meal we should all try.
When eating here, Anthony would delight in cheesesteak with extra beef, a poppy seed Kaiser roll with cheese and onions.
He also liked to spice things up a bit with some hot relish, which we suggest you do too.

Tony's Baltimore Grill
This is a no-frills Italian eatery that is known affectionately as 'The Grill'. It is claimed that you can find the best pizza in Atlantic City here.
During the filming of 'Parts Unknown', Anthony relished the sausage pizza and spaghetti with huge meatballs at the grill.
It is said that raw sausage is added to the pizza instead of cooked, which adds a special flavor to it.

Lucille's Country Cooking
Years after the diner was opened, Lucille's Country Cooking still uses the same ingredients and recipes that Lucille Bates-Wickward did.
Anthony would sit at the far end of the bar and dig into two eggs (over easy), home fries, a cup of chili, rye toast and scrapple.
He also enjoyed homemade blueberry pie at the diner, which he apparently loved.

Knife & Fork Inn
The Knife & Fork Inn was originally a men's club during America's Prohibition. It still retains that special 'Boardwalk Empire' feel that so many patrons adore.
Anthony visited the restaurant for his show and instead of ordering the signature Lobster Thermidor, he went for something quite different.
The chef ordered pretzel-crusted swordfish over lump crab meat. He enjoyed it and if you love seafood you will too.

Frank's Deli & Restaurant
When visiting this restaurant, Anthony ordered the #4 sandwich, which is salami, provolone, capicola, boiled ham and pepperoni served on homemade Italian bread.
Although this is not the restaurant's claim to fame (pork roll breakfast sandwich with ham, cheese and an egg), it is still a delicious meal worthy of trying.
On top of that, the restaurant offers a scrumptious donut filled with jelly.

Anthony was an expert when it came to food that tastes out of this world. Judging by the quality of the food on offer from these restaurants, we can see that he had amazing taste.
