Costes restaurant in Budapest started a unique experience with proper social distancing.
A Michelin-starred restaurant in Hungary's capital offers a scenic view over the ancient city from the Ferris wheel and a meal that you will not want to forget.
A fine dining experience on the famed Budapest Eye Ferris wheel
The whole idea came to life in October. The tickets were 155 dollars per person, and they sold out almost immediately. But this idea will soon blossom even more.
Coste's restaurant owner Karoly Gerendai told Reuters:
"Now that there are not many people either on the wheel or in the restaurant because there are no tourists, the opportunity arose that we could do this."
The creative way to get people out of their homes for a fantastic meal and even better view is just one of many. Budapest's restaurant's success only showed that though we're in the middle of the pandemic, there are ways not just to survive but to have some adventures.
Costes restaurant is a fusion of modern European style with traditional Hungarian influences and a focus on local produce and wine.
Once the spring starts, you can expect more Hungarians to endure meals on the Budapest Eye. The trial run was terrific, but it was chilly, so it's expected to become a regular thing over the warmer days.
The Tate Dining Room in Hong Kong has found a slightly different approach
One-Michelin star restaurant Tate Dining Room added partitions and spaced tables at least five feet apart.
Additionally, the restaurant uses steam to disinfect the spaces between the guests. It took an effort, but going out for a fancy meal while staying safe is a way to keep a sense of normalcy. And we all need it now more than ever.
Mediamatic ETEN in Amsterdam went green
Amsterdam arts center Mediamatic has set up a socially-distanced dining experience where guests sit in their own greenhouse and hosts wear face shields. The dining pods are separated and intimate yet visible and public.
It shows a lot of creativity and care for one's safety, and despite being in a pod, you get the whole restaurant experience.
New York and Los Angeles found their ways to keep customers
In New York, restaurateurs are turning to outdoor space heaters. Californian rooftops are transformed into outdoor dining oases.
It's no secret that many businesses are struggling. Yet, when we see this effort and imagination, it gives us hope that we can get away from the harsh reality, even for one meal.
