World's First Cheese Conveyor Belt Restaurant Inaugurated This Week

world’s first cheese conveyor belt restaurant inaugurated this week

Have you ever thought that conveyor belts in restaurants would fit more than only sushi? What about revolving cheese?

If that was your business idea, unfortunately, it is too late to be the first. A restaurant in London recently opened and is serving just that.

A Cheese Star Is Born

If you happen to be in London, do not miss the opportunity to visit the first restaurant of its kind. It is in Covent Garden, the new KERB Seven Dials food market.

At first, the business was a cheese van traveling around festivals in the UK from 2014. Its grilled cheese sandwich exploded in popularity, and the company was able to open a restaurant two years later.

Thanks to a triumphant crowdfunding campaign, the company opened The Cheese Bar in Camden. Now they expanded further to the first cheese conveyor belt restaurant in the world, Pick & Cheese.

A Cheese Lover's Dream

For true cheese enthusiasts, the choice is huge. In fact, you can pick among 25 different kinds of cheese.

Mathew Carver, who got the cheese restaurants' ideas, is giving the people what they want. In an interview, he explained:

"At the Cheese Bar, customers see cheeses on the board and often want to pick and choose their own. There's always been a demand for more options."

"So this is a natural progression. We want to let people pick what they want and give them the chance to try as many different varieties as possible."

The prices are much more affordable than one would think for a London eatery. They range between £2.95 and £5.25 - that is about $4.15 to $7.50.

Helping People Discover Cheese

Part of the mission Carver has in mind is to promote and educate about some local 'underrepresented' British cheeses. On the side, the restaurant offers wines from France, Italy, and beyond.

With the recent success of All-You-Can-Eat-Cheese Parties by Homage2Fromage, this seems to be a golden era for cheese. The co-founder of Homage2Fromage commented:

"The club aims to celebrate great cheese in an informal, fun way – this is not about snobby cheese and wine tastings. It is about sharing one of the greatest foods ever, in a simple, relaxed way."

"Homage2Fromage helps you discover new cheese, meet like-minded cheese fans and hear some of the amazing stories behind cheese and cheesemaking."

He continued:

"If you are passionate about cheese, curious about the many different kinds of cheese out there, how it's made, where it comes from, who makes it, why something so simple can be so diverse, so versatile, so delicious – then this is the club for you."

The signs are clear: if cheese is your thing, London is the place to be.
