Arrest Made After Women Cough On, Pepper Spray & Mock Asian Uber Driver For Telling Them Masks Are Required: Police

Remember that viral video of women in an Uber coughing at their driver? One of them has been arrested, while the others are expected to turn themselves in. It was such a disturbing scene, especially amid this pandemic.

On Thursday afternoon, the Las Vegas Police Department arrested 24-year-old Malaysia King, reports CBS Bay Area. Sources say that the other suspect, identified as Arna Kimiai, also 24, plans to turn herself in.

Reason For Arrest

Subhakar Khadka, a 32-year-old Uber driver, picked three women from San Bruno Ave. and Silver Ave. at about 12:45 p.m. One of them did not wear a mask.

As previously reported, Khadka requested that the woman without a mask put one on. She refused, and the trio became pretty hostile towards him for making such a request. He drove to a gas station so she could buy one, but instead of granting his request, the women became even more antagonistic.

They started coughing, used pepper spray on him, physically threatened him, and even took his cellphone.

In the video, the woman in the red shirt has been identified as Malaysia King and is accused of spraying the driver with pepper spray. The woman sitting directly behind Khadka has been identified as Arna Kimiai.

The Charges

Malaysia King has been charged with assault and battery conspiracy, assault with a caustic chemical, and a California health and safety code violation.

Trying to explain things from their perspective, Kimiai shared a video of the same incident on Instagram. She said they reacted the way they did because Khadka threatened to drop them off "in the middle of the freeway" without an arrangement for a different driver to pick them up.

Kimiai said:

"He lucky as hell I ain't have nothing on me... Cause if he would have played with me, bruh, it would have been a whole different story. All I did was take his mask off and cough a little bit but I don't even have corona."

Here is a video of her explaining herself:

Not that this justifies a direct violation of covid-19 protocols.

Lt. Tracy McCray of the Robbery Detail San Francisco Police Department said:

"We are glad to hear that Ms. Kimiai intends to do the right thing and turn herself into the nearest law enforcement agency and we hope it happens promptly."

Truly, "the behavior captured on video in this incident showed a callous disregard for the safety and wellbeing of an essential service worker in the midst of a deadly pandemic." The police department is "committed to ensuring that justice is done in this case."

Presently, Kimiai's charges are still unclear. But, sources say the women are wanted for robbery and assault.
