woman says her face grows pubic hair after skin graft

A woman has pubic hair growing on her face after doctors used groin skin to repair a dog bite.

Crystal Coombs was just 9 years old when a dog ripped a ‘chunk of tissue’ out of her face. The bite left a wound Crystal likened to the face of the horror villain, Freddy Krueger.

Following the incident, ER specialists instructed her to see a plastic surgeon who would repair the tear in her flesh.

In an episode of Botched, Crystal described the traumatic injury that left her face disfigured at a young age.

She said:

“[The missing chunk of flesh] was open for a while. Like how the outside of Freddy Krueger’s face looks, with the burn? That’s what the inside looked like.”

She went to a plastic surgeon. They told her that she needed a skin graft, and they were to take it from her groin area.

After the surgery, however, Crystal started sprouting ‘literal pubic hair’ on her face.

Recounting the ordeal to Dr. Terry Dubrow and Dr. Paul Nassif, Crystal explained she had had no clue such a thing could happen.

She said:

“I don’t believe that the doctor mentioned I would grow pubic hair out of my patch. I don’t remember that.”

Dr. Terry Dubrow then explained that it’s unusual for a doctor to do a skin graft using skin from the crotch or groin area.

He said:

“It’s interesting why they chose it from the groin because there are so many places.”

“They could’ve done the back, the abdomen. You obviously wouldn’t do the armpits.”

Having lived with the patch since the age of nine, Crystal spent most of her life not worrying about it too much.

However, as a new mum, she expressed concerns about her appearance negatively affecting her child’s life.

She explained that she doesn’t want other kids to tease her daughter once she starts schooling.

Crystal said:

“I, at first, thought it didn’t affect me. Since having my daughter, I really started to get conscious of it…”

“I’m worried about the kids she’ll go to school with… I don’t want others to tease her.”

While on the show, the mom said she hoped doctors could replace her facial patch, making it ‘as small and minimal as possible.’

The surgery, however, could jeopardize the structure of the face, depending on the initial injury.

Dubrow explained:

“Crystal’s case is actually deceptively very complicated.”

“That skin graft is very close to critical anatomic structures like the nose, the cheeks, and the eye. If altered, even a little bit, it can change the entire shape of the face.”

A few weeks later, Botched’s star doctors booked Crystal for surgery, and it was a huge success.

Crystal now looks like a whole new mom.

She admitted:

“Before, I was way too self-conscious. Now, I’m no longer worried about Sana having to go through 21 questions about what’s on my face. I’m excited. I feel beautiful…

She added:

“Thanks to Dr. Nassif, the skin graft is completely gone. So now, my face is finally smooth, symmetrical, and pubic hair-free.”

You can’t even spot the scar.
