Despite all body positivity campaigns, fashion trends still belong to thin, tall, young women.

Plus size women (whatever that means) want to look their best, but finding the right fit with the pattern you love is mission impossible.

If you don’t believe us, you have to see what one TikToker went through while recreating outfits from social media.

Social media and body image

Over 62% of people (mostly women) say that social media makes them feel bad about themselves. Furthermore, many of them claim that Instagram and Pinterest make them feel fat.

Understand that fat in the fashion world is not obese. It is anyone over size 2, 4 at best.

Brooklyn Allen, 23, is a part-time retail worker and part-time social media influencer. She enjoys sharing everything about fashion, including the ugly truth: trends are made for skinny girls only.

And before you call her jealous, full disclaimer: Allen stated that she was not shaming thin ladies but making a fashion statement.

Fashion on Instagram and Pinterest Vs. In Real Life

Allen stated:

“I’m completely okay with thin women using what they have, but I just want people to understand that it’s not the same for fat women.”

She spoke to BuzzFeed about her passion for fashion for everyone, saying:

“Our fat stomachs are systemically considered an imperfection, while a thin stomach is something that society would see as an elevation to an outfit.”

Her video explains how “fat women don’t have the same “advantages with their bodies that thin women do.”

Brooklyn added:

“Fat women don’t have the privilege of accessorizing with their fat stomachs unless they want stares and rude comments.”

Recreating the outfits

Brooklyn Allen chose some specific outfits to prove her point.

She even posed just like in the original photos to make her statement louder.

And though some posted negative comments, many TikTokers felt seen.

One TikToker explained how the video made them more “aware” to look for flattering outfits, instead of looking for inspiration on social media.

More to come

Brooklyn’s first video went viral for all the good reasons. But she is not stopping now.

She wants to continue to promote self-love regardless of how thin or thick you are. And trolls? Well, they can’t stop her, though they are trying.
