For singles living alone in a big city, life can get lonely. Getting a pet, then, is the most natural decision to make.
While dogs or cats could be obvious choices, ducks are definitely underrated. At least according to Erica Lim, a creative professional based in Malaysia.

Hatching An Egg
A couple of years ago, the 39-year-old from Kuala Lumpur decided to become a duckling mama. She then bought a fertilized egg from a balut restaurant in Puchong.

Balut is a popular, if controversial, dish in Southeastern Asia. It consists of a duck embryo boiled and eaten directly from the egg.
Lim was not looking for a snack, though. The woman wanted to try and hatch the egg at home.

A Duckling Is Born
Lim built a crafty incubator for the egg with a Styrofoam box surrounded by light bulbs. A couple of weeks later, the egg hatched and she became a duck mum.

For her, it was love at first sight. The official name of the cute duckling is Daisy, but Lin often uses the pet name Bibit.

Since Bibit hatched, the two became inseparable. No matter how many times the duck destroys something in the house, Lim always forgives her.

The Odd Couple
Being a duck, Bibit is always on the lookout for water. Of course, she loves to chill in the bathtub.

In any case, she enjoys spending time with Lim as her human reads a book or watches TV. After a long day at work, they both take it easy binging Netflix.

The two are proper movie buffs who cannot say no to a good film marathon. Lim even brought Bibit to the cinema for a special girls' night.

Sharing Happiness And Eggs
Bibit is not only an excellent companion, but she also makes sure that Lim eats properly. Laying eggs every 25 hours, she provides an infinite supply for her mama.

The duckling truly sounds like the perfect BFF. Grateful for her pet, Lim said:
"Ducks make wonderful companions. My Bibit is charming and attentive. I hope more people realize how much fun it is to have a duck as a pet."

Beware, puppies and kittens: the time of ducklings has come.
