Get ready to experience some second-hand anger: an employee is being widely praised on the internet for blocking her boss's number on her personal phone after he attempted to contact her.

Once you finish school or university, there are typically alternative tasks to focus on, such as studying for an upcoming exam, doing additional readings or working on your essay days before the deadline. However, in the workplace, work usually comes to a halt once you finish for the day, correct?

That assumption is incorrect. There are individuals who, even after their work hours, still have to go through stacks of paperwork or complete several emails.

Alternatively, your employer may choose to send messages to your personal phone, like TikToker Vanessa's experience, even when you have taken a sick day.

Vanessa, who utilizes TikTok as a platform to offer personal finance, small business, and career recommendations, used the social media platform to clarify her rationale for blocking her supervisor's contact information.

She said: "I just blocked my boss so he couldn't contact me while I wasn't at work."

"I'm at home, sick from work today and for some reason he felt the need to text me about work tasks."

In her video, Vanessa proceeds to elaborate that she pays $45 (CAD) per month (equivalent to £27 per month) to maintain two distinct phones, one for personal use and the other solely for work-related purposes.

Although her employer is aware that he should not send text messages to her personal number, the worker informs her audience that he still does so on occasion.

Vanessa resolves: "So today I blocked him."

Numerous TikTok users have gathered to express their support for Vanessa's choice to block her supervisor from contacting her on her personal mobile device.

One user said: "I don't blame you, he's not your friend and you're not working."

"Girl, all of mine blocked because they don't respect anyone's boundaries. Love to see it!" another wrote.

A third commented: "I would be telling HR cause there's no reason he should have your personal phone number."

Vanessa replied: "It's a smaller company so we actually don't have any HR."

Several TikTok users raised inquiries as to why Vanessa should bear the cost of her work phone.

The employee replied: "Everyone at the company uses their personal cell phones as work ones. The phone cost is 'worked into the salary' apparently."

Another TikTok user clarified that in Ontario, Canada, it is "actually against the law" for employers to contact their staff members outside of work hours.

Vanessa resolved: "Hopefully that will be a Canada wide law soon!"
