So you got the perfect date, went out a couple of times, and started texting daily. Then one day, you send a text and there is no response. An hour later and still no response yet your message has been read. So what do you do? Should you double text? No, that would be a bad idea.
While you may think that it shows concern, double texting is a big no-no. It is the reason why so many relationships end before they even start. If you still have doubts about why you should stop double texting, here are a few reasons.
It makes you look clingy and desperate
Whenever you send a message to someone and they do not respond, there is a reason behind it. If you keep texting them after getting no response, you seem like you need attention in your life. This is often a red flag for clingy people who do not do well in relationships. So instead of texting back, find something better to do. If they value you, they will get back to you. If they do not get back to you then you have been given your answer.
Double texting is annoying
While most people may not have an issue with a few double texts here and there, it gets to a point where it becomes annoying. No one wants to check their phone and find a series of texts saying, "Are you up?", "Are you seeing this?". The notifications for each text are irritating especially if the recipient is doing something else as you text them over and over again.
It gets addictive
At the very beginning of double texting, you may do it a couple of times and stop. As you go on, however, you find that it is a habit you cannot stop doing. You find yourself texting over and over whenever you do not get a reply. Deleting the texts after double texting does you no good since there will always be a receipt kept of the texts you sent. This habit is hard to stop.
It leads to ghosting
If you keep up with the double texts, you will most likely end up getting ghosted by the person you are talking to. No one wants to open their phone and find a dozen or so texts with no particular purpose from the same person. You end up being blocked or even worse, your texts go unanswered despite the fact that they have been received.
So you know why you should not double text, how do you stop? The good thing about this habit is that it can be stopped. Here are a few tips that can help you to stop double texting
Give the recipient time before sending another text
So you sent the text over an hour ago and still no response, should you send another? The answer is no. While you may think that the recipient needs a reminder of your previous text, doing so in a short span of time is not ideal. Give it a day or at least six hours before you text them again. If the text was a casual one, then there is no need to double text.
Only text when you are sure they have time
If you text someone at their busiest hour of the day or when they are asleep, they will not respond. Before sending that first text, find out what they are doing at that time. They are most likely to get back to you if you text them when they are free. This way, you do not have to send that second text.
Avoid double texts altogether
Whether they saw your text and did not respond should not bother you. The best option is usually to not send that second text. In doing so, you save yourself the embarrassment of looking idle, clingy, and desperate. Find something else to do that will distract you from double texting.
It might not make sense for you at the moment but there is a classiness in not double texting. Unless it is important, save yourself the trouble of looking desperate. If you are on their priority list, they will get back to you.
