"Why do you kiss your daughter on the lips?" one person asked the former footballer. "It's weird and inappropriate."

Actress Hilary Duff also triggered anger when she uploaded a photo of herself kissing her son Luca on the lips.

Even though the photo received thousands of likes, numerous people commented and informed the actress from A Cinderella Story that it was inappropriate.

Charlotte Reznick is an authorized child educational psychologist, a former associate clinical professor of psychology at UCLA, and an author.

She has cautioned that these innocent gestures could have significant consequences.

The author informs The Sun that it could confuse children, particularly if they associate kissing with sexual or romantic activities.

Reznick explains that it could lead a child to believe that: "If mommy kisses daddy on the mouth and vice versa, what does that mean, when I, a little girl or boy, kiss my parents on the mouth."

Many psychologists have criticized this suggestion and have argued that it will not cause any harm.

Clinical psychologist Sally-Anne McCormack also informs the outlet, "There is absolutely no way that kissing a young child on the lips is confusing for them in any way."

The expert further states it's like saying, "breastfeeding is confusing."

However, there is the concern of transmitting bacteria.

A dentist advises parents to avoid kissing their children on the lips until their baby teeth have fully developed.

Dr. Richard Marques, a celebrity dentist at Wimpole Street Dental in London, informs The Independent: "Baby teeth have a different type of enamel and dentine to adult teeth."

He states that in addition to spreading colds and other infections through saliva transfer, it can "cause decay of baby teeth" and "affect the soft tissues and gums before the baby teeth have developed".
