Why Never Getting Married Is The Smartest Decision You Can Make

So you have been in this relationship for a while and you actually think he or she’s the “one”. The next thing on the list is probably getting married and settling down. If you are thinking of such a thing let me burst your bubble, getting married might be the worst decision you will ever make in your life.

There are several reasons why I am saying so and avoiding marriage is probably one of the smartest decisions you will ever make-read on to find out why.

1. Marriage is unnecessary

Back in the days, it was necessary to get married. Families would barter land and money in exchange for a maiden. They believed that it ensured a bright future for the future married maiden. In this day and age, probably the only advantage is the tax relief, so if that is the reason why you want to commit yourself, then go ahead.

2. It puts pressure on your relationship

You can always walk away from a relationship once it is obviously over. However, you can’t do that in a marriage without a valid reason according to the law. Ending a marriage becomes more intense and is probably why most people just opt to stay in unhappy marriages, trying to make things work out. Well, no thanks.

3. Weddings are costly

The average American wedding costs about $30,000 and that’s enough reason to just forego this ceremony. Not unless you are stinking rich or just not into a big wedding, you might have to elope and forget the idea of a Cinderella wedding. It will make you end up in unnecessary debt that will haunt you in life. This is money that you would have probably spent on investments and yielded good returns.

4. Divorces are expensive as hell too!

Divorces are expensive as hell. Imagine having to go through a divorce. Hefty legal fees await you, not to mention child maintenance and a spouse who wants half of everything you ever worked for. Don’t forget the money that you will need to start all over again. Is it really worth it?

5. You don’t need a piece of paper to prove your love

If you think that a mere piece of paper is going to be the one to cement your relationship forever, then you need to think twice. Get real with yourself, please. If the two of you are in love and want to build a life together, just go ahead and do it! A piece of paper is not what you need to make your relationship last.

6. You are your own person

There are healthy relationships where you actually don’t get to lose your individuality or self-independence. However, being someone’s spouse you will automatically start being referred to as Mrs. So-and-so. Your self-identity begins fading away into the background and before you know it, your awesome self is completely gone. Think about it.
