Numerous sources claim that Amber Heard cannot pay $10.4 million in damages as decided by the jury in the defamation case between her and Johnny Depp. But what happens if Heard can't pay?

If you followed this viral case, you would know that Johnny Depp filed a defamation case against heard and demanded $50 million compensation for his ruined image. Heard, in turn, countersued him and requested $100 million as compensation.

They had been appearing in court since April 11, and a decision in Depp's favor was made on June 1.

On the last day Depp took the stand, he was questioned by Heard's legal team about some text messages between himself and Heard where he told her to take "no meetings" or "movies."

According to Unilad, the message from Heard read: "I'm at a coffee meeting now, will be home soon."

Depp's response read: "No goddamn meetings. No movies. Why? Why do you deviate from our agreement? What species of meeting? F*** it. Just tell me when you get home."

In a quest to prove that Depp was abusing Heard and infringing on her rights to certain things, Heard's attorney read these messages in court and implied that Depp didn't want Heard to take whatever meeting the message was referring to.

The attorney asked: "You didn't want her to take the meeting that she was taking that day, correct?"

Depp responded: "It seems as though we had an agreement to do something together. I'm actually asking what species of meeting."

He explained that he was not trying to stop Heard from doing films, but it was about sticking to their agreement.

According to Depp, it was "not necessarily an angry text" but one that was questioning why she would deviate from their prior agreement. Depp added: "It's not about her doing films. How do you think she got Aquaman, sir?"

In the final week of the trial, Heard retook the stand and talked about how the trial was affecting her mental health and career.

She was seen crying as she explained that she has been receiving death threats which she claims are from Depp's fans who don't believe her side of the story.

One person responded to Heard's recent outburst on Facebook, saying: "Then she should have never lied about all this. She did this to herself. And gets what she deserves."

Another added: "If she is so threatened and scared, why is she always smiling and laughing through this trial."

Since the trial began, Heard claimed that she has been "harassed, humiliated, threatened every single day" and blamed Depp for not doing anything to stop his fans from abusing her.

She was heard saying: "People want to kill me, and they tell me so every day. People want to put my baby in the microwave."

Depp's popular lawyer, Camille Vasquez, spoke about Heard's alleged lies during cross-examination.

Vasquez asked Heard, "Your lies have been exposed to the world multiple times?"

Looking at the jury, Heard responded: "I haven't lied about anything."

Vasquez next asked her: "When you told this jury you punched Mr. Depp because you thought of Mr. Depp pushing Kate Moss down the stairs, you didn't expect Miss Moss to testify that never happened?

Heard could only answer with claims that she knew people would "come out of the woodwork" to support Depp.

She had responded to Vasquez's question with the words: "Incorrect, I knew how many people will come out of the woodwork to support Johnny. Everybody who was around in the 90s and early aughts knew that rumor. I had heard that rumor from multiple people. Of course, that's what flashed through my head when my violent husband not only swung for me, but all of a sudden swung for my sister."

She continued: "Of course, I thought of that. I did not expect her to show up or expect her to show up, it did not matter, it did not change what I thought on the stairs when I thought he was going to kill my sister."

Vasquez did not let things stop there, she asked Heard why so many people came out to testify for Depp if he was such a bad person. These people included: Isaac Baruch, Morgan Knight, LAPD officers Tyler Hadden and William Gatlin, Shannon Curry, and Kate Moss, amongst many others.

Heard said: "I know how many people will come out and say whatever for him. That's his power. That's why I wrote that op-ed. He is a very powerful man, and people love currying favor with powerful men."

She also added that people would "say a lot of things to be involved in the Johnny Depp show."

Towards the end of the trial, Heard's lawyers kept trying to prove that Depp was a violent man, so much so that they brought up a comment he made in 1995 to Premiere magazine.

It read: "I have a lot of love in me and a lot of anger inside me as well. If I love somebody, then I'm gonna love 'em. If I'm angry and I've got to lash out or hit somebody, I'm going to do it. And I don't care what the repercussions are. Anger. Doesn't pay rent. It's gotta go. It's gotta be evicted."

According to the Insider, Depp did not "he did in fact make that statement" but did say that if at all he made such a comment, "he might have said that in reference to paparazzi."

Digging up something from 27 years ago turned the public rage to Heard's legal team. One person tweeted: "This is unbelievable… that they would stoop this low!"

Another commented: "Digging up things he said 27 yrs ago is really grasping for straws. And it has nothing to do with anything regarding this trial."

Addressing the jury in the courtroom at Fairfax, Virginia, Vasquez made a jab at Amber Heard when she said: "You may have noticed that no one showed up for Ms. Heard in this courtroom other than her sister. Every other witness who traveled to Virginia for her was a paid expert.

"This is a woman who burns bridges. Her close friends don't show up for her. Mr. [Ben] Rottenborn tried to discredit Mr. Depp's witnesses by suggesting they were all on Mr. Depp's payroll. So he doubled down on the hoax theory. That everyone is just lying."

When Heard's sister, Whitney Henriquez, testified in court, she said she was forced to sign a non-disclosure agreement after Depp allegedly hit her and "whacked" Heard in the face.

All of Heard's efforts to prove herself not guilty failed because the jury decided that Johnny Depp was the abused in Depp and Heard's relationship.

BBC News reported that Depp was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages.

Heard immediately took to Instagram to express her dissatisfaction at the verdict.

She wrote: "The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I'm heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband.

"I'm even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously."

"I believe Johnny's attorneys succeeded in getting the jury to overlook the key issue of Freedom of Speech and ignore evidence that was so conclusive that we won in the UK."

"I'm sad I lost this case. But I am sadder still that I seem to have lost a right I thought I had as an American – to speak freely and openly."

Depp also took to his Instagram page to express his thoughts.

The statement released read:

"Six years ago, my life, the lives of my children, the lives of those closest to me, and also the lives of the people who for many, many years has supported and believed in me were forever changed. All in the blink of an eye. False, very serious criminal allegations were levied at me via the media, which triggered an endless barrage of hateful content, although no charges were brought against me. It had already traveled around the world twice within a nanosecond, and it had a seismic impact on my life and my career."

"And six years later, the hurt gave me my life back. I am truly humbled. My decision to pursue this case, knowing very well the height of the legal hurdles that I would be facing in the inevitable worldwide spectacle in my life, was only made after considerable thought.

"From the very beginning, the goal of bringing this case was to reveal the truth regardless of the outcome. Speaking the truth was something that I owe to my children, and all of those who ever main steadfast in there is a part of me. I feel at peace knowing I have finally accomplished that."

Buzzfeed made an interesting observation. They reported that many celebrities liked Depp's post as opposed to Heard's. Buzzfeed reported that only Selma Blair, Sarah Steele, Kate Nash, and Jason Momoa were the celebrities that liked Heard's post.

Despite her loss in court, Heard will be getting $2 million as compensatory damages because Depp was found guilty of defaming Heard through his lawyer, Waldman.

Heard's attorney, Elaine Bredehoft, spoke about the trial after it ended. She claimed that the trial was a '"zoo," that Heard was demonized and that social media influenced the jury's decision.

She also said that the result of the trial was a "setback" for women and that Heard has the same thoughts. She added: "One of the first things she said when she came back from the verdict when we went into the conference room was 'I am so sorry to all these women. She felt like she had let down all of these women because she had more evidence than most people do. And yet they still didn't believe her."

"Amber had an enormous amount of evidence, although a lot of it was suppressed in this case as opposed to the UK. But look at all the women who have no evidence. All these women who suffer from domestic violence, domestic abuse, and they don't have evidence. And basically what this jury said is unless you pull out your cell phone and you tape-record your spouse beating you, you're out of luck."

According to the Washington Post, the executive director of the MediUKLaw Resource Center, George FreeUKn, explained why Depp won in the US but lost in the UK.

Freeman said: "The answer is simple. It was up to the jury."

Mark Stephens, an international media lawyer, also said that there were a lot of strategies involved. He explained that in the US, DARVO was employed.

DARVO is an acronym for defense, attack, reverse victim, and offender. By that, Depp became the victim while Heard became the offender.

He said: "We find that DARVO works very well with juries but almost never works with judges, who are trained to look at evidence."

Whatever the situation is, the fact that Depp won remains. Also, his career is expected to skyrocket after years of bearing the brunt of being tagged "an abuser."

A former Disney executive has said that Depp might be able to revive his role in Pirates of the Caribbean.

The Insider reports that the former Exec said: "I absolutely believe post-verdict that Pirates is primed for rebooting with Johnny as Capt. Jack back on board. There is just too much potential box-office treasure for a beloved character deeply embedded in the Disney culture. With [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer riding high on the massive success of Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, there is a huge appetite for bringing back bankable Hollywood stars in massively popular franchises."

There have been many claims of Heard being unable to pay $10.4 million in damages that she owes Depp. What happens if she can't pay?

She seems to have three options. It is believed that she could either appeal the jury's decision, file for bankruptcy or have her wages garnished since she still has "earning potential."

According to CBS News, attorney Sandra Spurgeon of Spurgeon Law Group from Lexington, Kentucky, while Heard can appeal the decision, she could be forced to post a bond for $10.4 million with interest.

Spurgeon said: "For an individual who doesn't have the ability to pay the judgment and no ability to post the bond, there is a real issue if the winning party intends to execute the judgment."

If Heard decides to file for bankruptcy, she won't have to pay the $10 million but would be required to pay $350k in punitive damages.

If Depp will pursue the damages remains unknown.
