A woman’s well-being has many aspects. Too many women focus only on physical health, thinking that it is enough. However, to be effective and purposeful throughout life, every woman needs to ensure all areas of her life are healthy, not just the physical. When one part of your overall health is compromised, it is almost impossible to carry out most activities.
Mental and emotional exhaustion can hinder you from performing your duties. Unfortunately, many people cannot tell when they are emotionally or mentally worn out. Thus, here are 8 warning signs you’re mentally and emotionally exhausted.
1. You’re finding it harder to sleep
Sleep is a key component of our overall health. When we sleep, it allows the body to rejuvenate and prepare for the next day. However, when your mental or emotional health is compromised, you will find it harder to calm your thoughts. Often at times, you will find your mind wandering, making it hard to sleep. When you lack sleep, you will have no energy to tackle life’s ever-pilling challenges.
2. You’ve become easily irritable
Everyone has a tipping point to being irritated. Many times, we try and exercise every bit of control and try not to get irritated. However, when you’re emotionally or mentally exhausted, you will get irked with little to no effort.
If you think you’re becoming easily irritable, take some time off. You should also engage in activities that make you feel more at peace to calm you down.
3. Your motivation tanks are running low
Motivation is what drives us, it is what gets us up early in the morning, and keeps us going throughout the day. When you’re motivated to achieve a goal, you work towards the goal. When you attain the goal, there’s an indescribable feeling of achievement.
Unfortunately, if your mind and emotions are not at their best, you lack the motivation to do even the most mundane of activities.
If you find this is the case for you, don’t be too hard on yourself. It happens to the best of us. Take a few steps back, and slow down. You’ll notice that inspiration is everywhere.
4. You’re more anxious than usual
More often than not, stress is a key component that follows exhaustion. When exhausted, you’ll most likely be more stressed when things are not going your way. Stress can heavily compromise your output in life as well as your overall wellbeing.
If you’re having anxiety attacks, or are generally more anxious than usual, take a step back. Finding your center can be of great help in solving anxiety attacks.
5. You’re nauseous and dizzy
Nausea and dizziness are never a good combination. While they may be a symptom of an array of conditions, it is also common with mental exhaustion. When your mind is not at its best, it will most likely manifest in being physically unwell.
Should you find yourself dizzy or nauseous, you should try everything to prevent the situation from getting worse.
6. Small things upset you
When you’re mental and emotional health suffers, you will experience heightened sensitivity. The smallest things that you would ordinarily overlook will now bother you.
When you are like this, people will distance themselves from you. Before that happens, you should isolate yourself, rest well, and try to calm down through activities you enjoy.
7. You feel like crying over nothing
Crying is good for you; It can help you deal with grief and many other emotions. However, when your emotional and mental health is imbalanced, you may find yourself crying for no particular reason.
8. You’re feeling detached from loved ones
If you’re feeling like no one cares about you, you need to evaluate your mental and emotional wellbeing. When you’re unwell, you’ll become numb, which makes it harder to feel emotions. In your mind, this will register as detachment.
The bottom line is, emotional and mental wellbeing is an important aspect of living healthy. When you feel like the odds are tipping against you, one of the most important things is to allow your mind and body to rest. Then, you need to find the root cause of the issues affecting you. Finally, you need to work on them, one step at a time.
