Being a celebrity comes with plenty of responsibilities. But, clearly, some are not willing to make an effort, and they are doomed to repeat the same mistake all over again, like Justin Bieber.
Just recently, the Canadian superstar got himself into hot waters for using Martin Luther King Jr.'s recording on his album. Now, he is disrespecting Black culture again with his dreadlocks.
Bieber Was Always Half Talent, Half Looks + Controversy
While Justin was a teen sensation, his cuteness and his talent were the winning combos. As he got older, he got more hits, like Sorry, What Do U Mean, Peaches, Intentions, and Holy, and more controversies.
His latest looks are somewhat a repeat from 2015. He's wearing dreads, and people are not amused.
Due to current racial awakenings, Justin should've known better. After all, dreads are an important part of Black culture, and until we are all truly equal, we should pay more attention to cultural appropriation.
Fans Share Their Feelings On Justin's Dreads
Many people pointed out that Justin should do better. It simply means educating himself, especially since he has a lot of followers and a large platform to educate others.
One Twitter user put it quite simple:
Another felt betrayed:
"I can't keep defending you hoe stop with the childish acts you know better than to put on dreads!!! I will pull my money out from the tour if you don't apologize bro. You did this in 2016 now again? how you claim to be educated now but still pull the same stunts."
Others call the singer to do as he says:
One fan was full of love:
"Hey, bae. I love you so much, and I only want the best for you, so I'm going to ask you to please let the dreads go. Like, stop. I can't defend you."
Stuck In 2015
Bieber fans were quick to show that he was already wearing dreads.
And while many wondered why he didn't get the memo back in 2015, some were in the defense mode.
One Instagram user wrote:
"Omg let him do whatever he wants with his hair."
"It's literally JUST hair, he can do with it whatever he wants to!"
Fans will justify anything:
"Everybody acts like they've never seen a white man with dreads before. It's 2021, and we're this bent over hair? Relax."
And we mean anything:
"Justin Bieber rocking dreads is not cultural appropriation, man. What the guy wants to do with his hair is his own damn decision. It's his head! Not yours! Good Lordy y'all need help."
With Fans Like These, He Will Never Learn
When millions are telling you that it's just hair, then you don't need to learn a thing.
However, some were going to another extreme: canceling Justin Bieber altogether.
While we don't want to cancel him because it is not part of the solution, he needs to step up. It is never too late to do better and all starts with knowledge.
