It's no secret that Todd Chrisley is loved by many. However, the actor's past is littered with many dark secrets.
If you haven't heard of the man, here he is.
Chrisley is an American businessman, and most people know him for his popular reality show: Chrisley Knows Best.
He has been starring in the show, alongside his family, for 5 years.
The show's focus is the family as it handles the daily hurdles that any healthy family would face. The family also tries to have fun along the way.
The team has managed to give us truly remarkable television moments.
With the start of the seventh season, the show took things to another new level. All family members got their own storylines.
Even the nanny got her own storyline.
Can you recall this funny scene?
Todd told his son Grayson that he could not drink the soda. However, Grayson drank it while looking his father straight in the eye.
It was a simple act, but unforgettably hilarious.
The little boy certainly has some guts.
You had to see the look on Todd's face. It was iconic.
No wonder the whole country seems so fond of the man.
In general, the show is doing well, and some people have gone as far as saying that they like it better than the Kardashians.
However, as lovable as Todd might be in the show, his past has been anything but innocent.
When you come to think of it, Todd might have plenty to hide.
So, let's go through some of Todd's darkest secrets.
Let's start with the fact that he is dealing with a tax evasion case.
Todd and his wife have faced several charges. They include tax evasion, wire fraud, bank fraud, and even conspiracy.
According to the DA, the couple has apparently defrauded banks.
As a result, the couple managed to get millions which they spent lavishly. They did not stop there but also cheated the taxman out of his money by avoiding paying federal taxes on their income.
The evidence goes all the way back to 2007.
As it turns out, the couple has been fabricating documents and providing false information to firms and banks to get large amounts of money.
They have apparently been doing this throughout their careers.
Predictably, the money was spent on their lavish lifestyle.
From the look of things, some people have been suspicious of this for quite some time now.
After all, the family has been spending thousands of dollars on clothes only.
It's hard to do that without getting loans and cutting corners to avoid paying money they owed.
After hearing this about the reality TV stars, the fans have started to turn on them.
Obviously, that puts their show at risk.
As we have learned from the past, things can only go downhill from here.
So far, Todd says none of this is true. Apparently, he is being set up.
Todd posted a long Instagram message trying to explain himself. Unfortunately, nothing he says in the post sounds believable, although he denied all the allegations being leveled against him.
Strangely, the post featured a promo picture of the family.
His argument is that a former employee of the family is out to get them.
He did not name the employee in the post but claimed that the employee wants to destroy the family and everything they have worked for. Apparently, the employee is getting revenge after getting caught stealing from the family:
"We fired the guy and took him to court and that's when the real trouble started."
So, it seems like the employee didn't take too kindly to having his job terminated.
As a way to get back on the family, the said employee took "phony documents" to the U.S. Attorney's Office and claimed that the Chrisleys had committed all kinds of financial crimes.
Todd ended the lengthy post by telling his nearly 2 million followers that he had posted the message because he had nothing to hide.
Unfortunately, this is not the only controversy linked to Todd.
In fact, this does not represent the full extent of his financial troubles.
Back in 2012, Todd filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection. At the time, he had debts totaling $49.4 million.
However, he insists he has managed to get things back on track.
Unfortunately, he was soon facing tax evasion allegations.
Then something else came to light about Todd.
Apparently, back in 2016, he was signed to a record label.
After that, things got quiet. It was not clear what was going on.
Based on their reality show, it certainly seems like his family is very close.
However, that is the farthest thing from the truth.
Back in 2014, his son said a few unsavory things about his father.
Kyle, during an interview, described his father as "bankrupt, toxic, and a snake."
We wish we could say that was the worst of it.
Kyle also tried to accuse his dad of trying to get custody of Chloe, his daughter.
You are probably wondering: why would he do that?
Apparently, Todd thought this would increase the show's viewership. How crazy is that?
How has Todd being handling these allegations?
He accused his son of being a self-medicating bipolar person!
According to Todd, Kyle has been self-medicating "since he's been young."
There is another controversy surrounding Todd.
This has everything to do with his sexuality and nothing to do with being homophobic, obviously.
However, living a lie is an issue.
In the year 2014, he rejected rumors that he was gay.
He said that there was no coming out necessary and that he was as he seems. He concluded by saying that other people's opinions are none of his business.
Todd went to the trouble of addressing the rumors on Twitter.
He has since deleted the post, but it said:
"I don't live in a closet, but if you'd like me to escort you out of yours I'm happy to do so."
Unfortunately, that did not end the rumors.
The fact that his son Kyle contributed to the debate didn't help things.
Kyle talked of how he used to work with his father at Chrisley Asset Management, where he often asked the asset managers, 'you want me to come to hold it for you whenever an asset manager said they were going to pee.
His son went on to say that, were it not for the money, Julie, his wife, would split.
Then there is a really dark secret about the man.
His first wife, Teresa, has accused Todd of domestic violence. She said that he "wielded a knife and threatened to kill her."
Apparently, he is a fearsome man when he feels like he is losing control:
"I don't know how he'll function without his money. I think his control mechanisms drive him and if there's something he can't control… I'd be fearful for him and of him."
We didn't quite cover the controversy between him and his granddaughter, Chloe.
Chloe was the center of a bitter custody battle between Todd and Kyle, with her father Kyle ultimately winning this fight.
After that, Chloe was no longer in the show.
Why is that?
Todd did not want to pay his son Kyle.
Todd, as always, had an explanation for the situation. Apparently, Kyle was threatening to sue, and that forced them to take Chloe from the show.
It seems like the entire family is a total mess.
For instance, his sister-in-law, Pamela, has blackmailed and even tried to extort the man.
The woman tried to get hush money from Todd so that she would not sell a certain story of his.
Unfortunately, things didn't go as intended.
Pamela ended up getting arrested in 2016.
Todd, as usual, felt the need to share the whole incident on Instagram.
Ready for another Todd controversy?
There are widespread rumors that the show is not as real as they would like us to believe.
On multiple occasions, Kyle has claimed that the show is scripted and fake.
Unfortunately, based on the stark differences between Todd's personality on and off the screen, this might be true.
Needless to say, there is quite a rift between Kyle and Todd, his father.
However, the relationship he has with his daughter Lindsie is just as troubled.
Lindsie left the show back in 2017, and for a scandalous reason.
Apparently, the fact that her dad wanted to turn her divorce into a storyline for the show did not sit well with her.
According to reports, he tried to use his daughter's heartache for a story and "didn't care either way how she felt about it."
Todd decided to do whatever he wanted, and that ended up ruining his relationship with his daughter.
If you think that marks the end of his controversies, think again.
In the year 2019, Todd was apparently part of a plan to extort his daughter Lindsie.
Her father was apparently threatening to release her sex tape.
However, Todd has denied the allegations. He even said that it was heartbreaking and shameful to have such accusations aired publicly.
He told the media that they had tried to keep her daughter's extramarital affairs with Robby Hayes and Josh Murray private since 2016.
You probably think that Todd has at least one happy relationship.
Sadly, there are doubts about his relationship with his wife, Julie.
Allegedly, their relationship is completely fake.
According to sources, it's hard for those who work with Todd and Julie to believe that their relationship is real.
As it turns out, the whole thing is "made for TV."
The affection the couple shows each other on camera does not happen once the cameras stop rolling.
That brings into question the implication that Julie is a hardworking housewife.
Once again, that is apparently not the case.
It seems like that is just another way to make the reality show look good.
With a lot of people under them, none of them have to do anything as far as housekeeping goes.
All in all, it appears there is more to Todd Chrisley than his reality show wants us to believe.
The internet has plenty to say about the man, his family, and his show.
So, don't for a moment think that Todd is just like you see him in his show.
The saddest part is that he is not the only celebrity to have dark and appalling secrets to hide despite his lovable on-screen persona.
