Just because you're a TikTok star, you can't go kissing underage kids. Zoe LaVerne, 19, apologized after kissing a 13-year-old boy. The boy's also her fan.

Zoe addressed the whole incident while apologizing and claiming she was not grooming the boy.

The 13-year-old in question is Connor Joyce, also a TikToker. Here's what happened and what Zoe has to say.

Zoe may not be that much older, but Connor is still a boy

There's no question about it: what Zoe did was illegal, but the fact that she's merely an older teenager is why many will give her a pass.

In her apology video, she tried to explain, saying:

I didn't groom Connor, I wouldn't do that. He's a kid and I'm aware of that. It just happened.

We both were in a dark place when we first became friends and we both just ended up catching feelings for each other. And friends do that, they catch feelings for each other. That's not a bad thing. Yes, age is a bad thing, yes, it's wrong. Yes, it's not good. We both realized that and we stopped.

Things did get a bit out of control. The teenagers did work on several collaborations, and hormones got the best of them.

However, some accused Zoe of rape, so Joyce had to talk to his 400,000 followers, saying LaVerne "did not rape" him.

What a mess.

How did the whole thing get so public?

Between Zoe's 18 million followers and Joyce's almost half a million, it's clear that the interest in these youngsters is huge.

But, according to some sources, the thing became public because of jealousy. The controversy first came to light when messages between LaVerne's onetime friend and her ex-boyfriend leaked online.

LaVerne's ex reportedly said he broke up with her "because of her interactions with Connor." The ex wrote:

They got very intense and it's something I do not stand by whatsoever. It's pedophilia.

LaVerne said she told Joyce's mother about the situation:

She wasn't happy obviously but she understood that we are both teenagers and that feelings can be caught.

And LaVerne's mother also defended her daughter in a livestream:

Anybody can reach over and kiss somebody. They're best friends.

Lady, you're not helping the situation, because Connor is still only 13, and your daughter is 19.

Apparently, TikTok is more than just bad dances and awful challenges. Yet, we have no idea whether LaVerne will suffer further consequences.
