Sometimes, you do things for the people you love. Sometimes, these same people wouldn't do something for you if you needed them to. Why do you need to insist on a relationship where you are holding the strings to everything? If you let go of those strings, everything would fall apart. Is that a relationship? Is that love?

We live in a world where people's approval means everything. You need approval about yourself at some point in time. You do things for people to like you. But that doesn't make them truly love you. And worse, it hurts you. You do everything with all your heart, but do you think you deserve the side treatment you receive?

The new year has just started and you must have made some resolutions for yourself already. Make an addition. This year, make a resolution to let go of all those people who are just there in your life for the sake of it, or maybe because you have held on to them.

This won't be easy because these could be the people who you care about. But when you think of it, it's not love. It's only an attachment. You do everything for them without any appreciation or reciprocation because you are scared to let go of them. But you know what? That's what you need. People who don't want to do things for you or even acknowledge your efforts don't love you for what you are. These kinds of people don't deserve to be in your life. Your efforts are only going to be wasted.

Stop being there for their every need, stop being a listener and try to make them listen to you for a change, stop texting back. Start prioritizing yourself over them, start doing things you love instead of simply accompanying them on their favorites.

The result of all of this? You probably won't hear from them again. They will probably desert you for life. But trust me, that's what you need. You deserve someone who truly cares for you, who can be there whenever you need them as much as you being there in their need. You need someone to take care of you. You deserve true friendship and commitment and not fake approvals of something that was never meant to be.

Life is too short to waste on people who don't deserve you. Don't burden yourself with the pressures of people's expectations. Make the most of it with true love and friendship.
