Being a famous woman comes with many perks and perhaps even more disadvantages. In a world where everyone celebrates youth and size zero, being anything but is full of challenges.
Yet, here we are with some of the most followed, most famous ladies who are not hiding away their curves. In fact, they are healthy, successful, and preaching body positivity. Because, to be fair, zero isn’t even a size!
In the early 2000s, there were a lot of young, fresh faced women in the entertainment business. No one cared whether they had talents, but they were known as IT girls. This revival of the 70s brought us memorable fashion moments, but each of these women was severely underweight, as some later admitted.
Kate Bosworth, Alexa Chung, Sienna Miller, Mischa Barton were everywhere, and soon their style was followed by an unhealthy movement called Thinspiration. It’s now banned on all social media.
Though these celebrities had other qualities, everyone was raving about their looks, and it seemed as if it was heroin chic, the 90s fashion movement, all over again.
However, with social media, celebrities, and regular folks could express themselves, despite the apparent trolling and constant attacks. And that’s how the body positivity movement became a real deal.
The rise of curvaceous women
Thick celebrities got accused of promoting obesity at first. Well, they are below an average American woman, so instead of hiding, they proved their critics wrong.
It’s one thing to be naturally thin, but many are struggling with hormone disbalance, depression that comes with medications, diabetes, and, of course, your body changes as you get older.
Though obesity is an issue just like any other eating disorder, being thick implies that you’re overall healthy and accepting of what you are. And if not, you still don’t have to explain your medical issues to just about anyone.
Women, and men as well, wanted to see a bit more realistic images of famous women. Despite that, the critics still defend skinny ladies, we have more diverse body shapes, and we salute them. It’s empowering not to think what others think all the time. It also sends an important message to young girls: you can be successful and sexy without starving yourself.
What truly matters is that your dies are based on healthy foods, and you get plenty of exercises. Yet, skipping meals and living on cigarettes and alcohol is no longer a thing. Thankfully!
Just a decade ago, designers refused to work with stars who weren’t wearing sample sizes. If you were size US 4, you had to buy your dress, while size zero celebrities were getting freebies. It seems trivial, yet it shows how much fashion business went against natural, feminine curves.
A prime example that hard work can get you on the top of the world, Queen Bey’s impressive resume made her A+ lister before she was 30.
Now, she has her clothing line, and who’s better to model than a beautiful, healthy, happy and curvy woman?
Some argue that Beyonce uses too much Photoshop. Well, guess what? Most of us do. Why not be the best version of ourselves? It has nothing to do with embracing the perfectly shaped curves. And if someone can show you how to carry yourself if you’re not stick thin, that’s Beyonce!
After all, this lady invented the term bootylicious, and we’re more than grateful!
Boobilicious actress had many troubles finding a clothes that fits.
Though she’s quite accomplished, it took people time to realize that you can be a movie star with a perfectly shaped figure, as if you were born to stand next to Marilyn Monroe or Jayne Mansfield.
Christina said about her body:
“Back when I was modeling, the first time I went to Italy I was having cappuccinos every day, and I gained 15 pounds. And I felt gorgeous! I would take my clothes off in front of the mirror and be like, ‘Oh, I look like a woman.’ And I felt beautiful, and I never tried to lose it, ’cause I loved it.”
The Titanic star was once considered to be too fat for an actress. Yes, despite all her awards, and obvious talent, Winslet didn’t fit into the movie industry.
Instead of changing herself, she worked on her craft and became one of the biggest actresses of all times. Now, she’s teaching the importance of loving your body to her daughter:
“I stand in front of the mirror and say to Mia, ‘We are so lucky we have a shape. We’re so lucky we’re curvy. We’re so lucky that we’ve got good bums.’ And she’ll say, ‘Mummy, I know, thank God.’ “
The true businesswoman with a fashion and makeup empire, Rihanna is one of the most inspiring and carefree women on the planet.
Her weight fluctuates, and that’s perfectly normal. However, she remains stylish, provocative, and hot AF no matter what size she’s wearing.
She doesn’t care about the critics since it’s rather clear that Riri knows how to show the middle finger to the ones who are constantly speculating about her weight.
Jennifer Love Hewitt
Everyone loved Jennifer Love Hewitt, but then she gained some weight and people were full of opinions.
Instead of being on constant diets, Jennifer embraced and learned to love her new body. There’s no big secret: the actress had a baby and didn’t go back to her previous weight.
Speaking about her bum and boobs, she simply said:
“I just accepted them as an accessory to every outfit.”
Yes, Lizzo doesn’t look like a supermodel, but have you seen her perform live? Also, women come in all shapes and sizes, so we can’t all have perfect tiny frames and legs for days.
She has more energy and drive than any current star. Why? She clearly loves her work and her curves.
The singer loves posing in skimpy lingerie, saying:
“I’m doing this for myself. I love creating shapes with my body, and I love normalizing the dimples in my butt or the lumps in my thighs or my back fat or my stretch marks, I love normalizing my Black-ass elbows. I think it’s beautiful.”
The first plus-size supermodel has a beautiful, healthy, sexy pear-shaped figure. With her flawless face, it’s easy to see why she became so popular.
Graham spoke about her former insecurities and how she learned to love her body:
“My thighs are thick, they are luscious, and I got made fun of for them my whole life. And now I’m being praised for my thick thighs. And they have saved my life many a time, and I want women to know that their thick thighs are saving their own lives.”
The original curvacious diva, J. Lo, is 50 and fabulous. She’s still in demand as she was 20 years ago, and her behind is one of her most celebrated assets.
Lopez was always accepting of her body, and her confidence made her even sexier.
There’s no denying that she brought booties back on the scene, and we’re sure that men are rather grateful to her.
The best female athlete in the world, Serena Williams, faced some disgusting trolling for one simple reason: she’s black, and she’s not as slim as Maria Sharapova, for example.
Yet, Serena’s got the last laugh because her thick figure and muscles made her GOAT. She did take time to reflect on her figure, saying:
“When I was young, I thought I should be built more like an athlete — long and lean — not with a womanly figure. But then people my age started coming up to me, saying, ‘I love you because of the way you look.’ They could relate to me. That was really motivating. So I learned to be proud of my curves and to embrace my large boobs and my butt. It’s all about loving who you are and realizing that you’re beautiful.”
She was one of the biggest supermodels of the 90s.
But the model turned TV host is no longer under the pressure of being underweight. She’s living her best life, and her curves are nothing short of amazing.
She was gorgeous as a young model. But, there’s something even hotter about a woman who’s all grown up and not afraid to bare it all. Tyra knows that her worth goes way beyond her figure, and isn’t that what it is all about?
