Yes, in a perfect world Halloween would fall on a Saturday. There is always that one drawback to the holidays that they won't fall on the same day every year. Then every year we are constantly looking at the calendar to remind ourselves what day it is on. Then we see it falls on a weekday and the horror sets in, "Omg, I have to go to work the next day."

Change.org has a petition to permanently change Halloween to occur on the last Saturday of October. Sign. Me. Up.

When Halloween falls on a weekday, this is how most of us are: We get up in the morning and the first thing we are doing is mapping out the day. It usually goes something like this. We go to work, then we scramble home to gather up costumes while we manage to throw a quick dinner together. We feed our kids quickly to get them dressed and do whatever makeup is necessary praying they don't get it on anything. We rush out the door coming back a few hours later with sugar-high kids who keep asking for just one more piece of candy, all the while protesting bedtime. The next day, everyone wakes up feeling hungover not wanting to do anything but lay around, parents and kids both included. A Saturday Halloween makes much more sense for everyone.

The Halloween & Costume Association created the petition a few months ago. It has been officially dubbed the "Saturday Halloween Movement." The organization believes if it is on a Saturday, it leaves a full day for celebration instead of only a few cramped hours. The official goal is to reach 15,000 signatures which they are almost at and it is looking like they will surpass their goal.

Yay for that and the more time to enjoy our candy!

The petition notes a couple of key points. They note that since it will be an all-day event it will start earlier which means it will be safer for the kids. Let's face it, when we are rushed we are more likely to forget flashlights, glow sticks, or whatever reflective gear the kids might need for trick-or-treating. The petition states that there are 3,800 Halloween-related injuries each year. The organizers state that this could reduce the number of injuries by having an all-day Halloween.

The Bottom line: all holidays are a lot more fun when you can take the time to breathe and actually take the time to be able to stop and enjoy the little moments. When we are rushed we tend to miss all those moments which include taking pictures. So, Are All in favor?
