It Is Called CasAnus

The hotel, located on an island halfway between Ghent and Antwerp in Belgium, was designed by Joep van Lieshout, a Dutch artist. It was built in 2007 and continues to welcome guests to this day. The hotel sits in the midst of a picturesque open field.

The Work Of Art Was Commissioned By The Verbeke Foundation Sculpture Park

The CasAnus is actually considered a piece of art and is part of a larger collection of private artworks owned by Geert and Carla Verbeke-Lens, occupying a 30-acre plot in Belgium. Despite its unique design, only around 200 guests visit and stay at the CasAnus each year, which seems surprisingly low given its notoriety.

It Only Costs About $165 A Night

Considering the CasAnus is an incredibly unique accommodation in a beautiful location, the price of staying there is surprisingly affordable. For a reasonable fee, guests can enjoy a cozy double bed, a shower, and central heating, as well as access to the BarRectum, a bar designed to resemble the large intestine. It's a truly one-of-a-kind experience!

There Was Actually A Serious Inspiration Behind This Project

According to van Lieshout, CasAnus is the result of his exploration of various systems, including economic, political, and human body systems, which he believes to be "a perfect system." From 2005 to 2008, he created a series of works that represented human body parts, including internal organs such as the heart, brain, liver, rectum, and male and female reproductive organs.

CasAnus is part of that series and takes the shape of the human digestive system, starting with the tongue and ending with the anus, passing through the stomach, and small and large intestines.

The Park Is Closed For The Winter, But You Can Check Back Come Spring
