The Weeknd Surpasses Justin Bieber As Most-streamed Artist On Spotify

This has been an excellent weekend for the Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye. The Grammy-winning artist has now just become the top artist on Spotify.

That means Justin Bieber, the famous Canadian artist, is no longer the top artist on the platform at the moment.

To claim the title, The Weeknd got a jaw-dropping 85.6 million monthly listeners, and the number keeps on rising. In August, Bieber managed to get 84 million listeners.

The news comes after the artist released his fifth studio album, Dawn FM, which was preceded to 2020s After Hours. After releasing his latest album, it immediately went to the top of the list on Spotify.

The album also dominated charts around the world and within the US.

The Weeknd has collaborated with several artists in the album, including Lil Wayne and Tyler, the Creator. Jim Carrey, The Weeknd's friend, and neighbor, also acts as a DJ in the radio station referenced in the album.

Other celebrities featured in the album include Quincy Jones, the famous producer, and Josh Safdie, his co-director in Uncut Gems. Dawn FM features funky music.

There was a year of suspense before the album was released. The singer kept teasing and promoting the album for six months.

Still, even with all that hype, it could not reach number 1 on the Billboard 200, where it came to Gunna's DS4EVER, which outsold Dawn FM by 2,300 copies.

One of the songs, Here We Go Again, was recently in the news because it seemed to make references to his romance with Angelina Jolie:

"And my new girl, she a movie star/My new girl, she a movie star/I loved her right, make her scream like Neve Campbell."
