22-year-old Sawyer Fredericks, who emerged as the winner during the eighth season of The Voice, just announced that he is bisexual. He made the revelation on Instagram to more than 91k followers.
He began his post by saying it was the time for his truth. Fredericks then proceeded to say that he was bisexual.
He also talked about his past, when he thought he was straight because he experienced a greater attraction to women, not knowing there were more options other than being gay and straight.
It was only later that he realized he had made the wrong assumption that he was straight. He also took note of the fact that he had not been discriminated against based on his sexual orientation.
Fredericks also expressed his sympathy for those who had faced discrimination over their sexuality. He suspected that the announcement might cost him some fans, but he made it clear that he was perfectly fine with that.
Previously, he announced that he was living with his partner in Troy, New York. They two have been living together for about five years, having met at a rock climbing gym.
Fredericks said that this was the first time he lived with someone who was not a family member. When discussing his relationship with his partner, he said they were both responsible for keeping their apartment clean.
Fredericks won The Voice when he was just 16 back in 2015. Pharrell Williams was coaching him.
Around the time he won the competition, he told the media of his eagerness to go back to his family's farm in Upstate New York.
He was looking forward to working on the farm again while enjoying the open space and the nature around his home.
