It's official! Netflix has renewed The Umbrella Academy for the second season, and it's already in the works.
Netflix's The Umbrella Academy season 2 is firmly underway, and fans are searching the web for spoilers. The series is based on a comic book created by My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way.
Netflix recently teased fans with the upcoming series by uploading an Instagram photo of The Umbrella Academy stars Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Ethan Hwang, Robert Sheehan and Ellen Page along with the caption:
"Just some good eggs taking a family selfie. Umbrella Academy s2 is coming soon."

Diehard fans can note that David Castañeda (Diego) and Aidan Gallagher (Number 5) aren't in the pic. The "family selfie" doesn't feature the whole family, which may or may not signal some splintering in the family's ranks for The Umbrella Academy season 2.
What happened at the end of The Umbrella Academy season 1?
The central plot of the first season focuses on Number 5's attempts to stop the apocalypse after traveling through time and discovering exactly when the world would end. But he fails.
To everyone's surprise, the cause of the apocalypse is their sister, Vanya, (Ellen Page), who they thought was powerless (after a lifetime of being told she had no powers — now turns to be the most powerful Academy member).
In the final fight, Allison thinks she might be able to stop the apocalypse (triggered by the seemingly boundless powers of Page's violin-playing) and save the world without killing her sister.
One of Vanya's energy beams hits the moon and breaks it into pieces, which come hurtling down to Earth.
Number 5 decides to travel through time once more, taking his siblings with him. The season ends in suspense, with them disappearing just before a fiery blaze destroys the city.
The show garnered a staggering amount of fans when Season 1 landed on Netflix last year. It's no surprise the second season was put into production.
In fact, Netflix revealed that 45 million households watched it. To put that into perspective, You and Sex Education amassed 40 million each.
Filming for the second season was confirmed to be underway in June 2019. If we take season 1 as an example and based on the fact producers claim that it takes around 18 months to finish a single series, we can hopefully expect season 2 somewhere in the second half of 2020.
