‘The Restaurant Of Order Mistakes’ Employs Waiters With Dementia, And You Never Know What You’re Getting

The last thing you might imagine doing is pay a restaurant to give you the wrong order. Boy, are you in for a surprise!
One restaurant in Japan is only making its money offering its patrons dishes they never ordered.
The pop-up restaurant’s premise is to show that people with dementia are good workers, despite that they won’t be able to remember all that you ordered.
The Whole Point is to Get the Wrong Order?
The Restaurant of Order Mistakes is a witty spin on the book, The Restaurant of Many Orders. It opened its doors in Tokyo’s Toyosu district, and strangely enough, it only hires waiters with dementia.
This unique restaurant’s premise was that the waiters who have dementia would probably get your order wrong.
The restaurant was part of a pop-up event from June 2-4 2017 to see how it would work out.
However, if you enter the restaurant knowing about this, it changes how you view people with brain diseases.
Of course, this experience helps you realize that dementia patients are able–if you give them a chance–to be functioning members of society.
Mizuho Kudo, a food blogger who visited The Restaurant of Order Mistakes, said she had a good time there.
She ordered a hamburger at first. However, waiters served her gyoza dumplings instead.
Everything was unexpectedly delicious there, according to her. She also said that the staff had broad smiles on their faces and seemed to be enjoying their time.
Maggie’s Tokyo (Japan’s version of the UK-based Maggie’s Centres), who helped start the event in June 2017, plans to hold another one like it in September for Alzheimer’s Day.
Raising awareness and accepting that dementia can happen to anyone, even when they are young, is the restaurant’s mission. And it certainly does a great job at helping others that people who suffer this disease need more than constant reminders that they forgot something.
