Even a travel enthusiast like the late Anthony Bourdain once found a place that left him speechless. After all, one of the reasons why we love traveling is to be surprised by new experiences.
For Bourdain, the most unbelievable destination was Iran. Considering his impressive travel record, there is no doubt it must indeed be a special country to visit.
Bourdain’s impressions of Iran
In an interview, he once said:
“I was really knocked sideways by how well we were treated in Iran and how delicious the food was and how hospitable ordinary people were to us”.
He expressed these feelings once again in the Parts Unknown episode dedicated to the Middle East. The country truly seemed to have left a mark on the chef’s heart.
Contrasting with the image of the place we see on television, Bourdain noticed that there is a “much bigger picture”. He continued:
“Iran does not look, does not feel the way I expected”.
A warm welcome from the locals
One of the things that warmed his heart was the friendly attitude of the locals. Bourdain felt so welcome in Iran, in fact, that he almost did not know what to think. He revealed:
“I am so confused. It wasn’t supposed to be like this”.
Travelers are following Bourdain’s steps
In recent years, Iran has become a more popular destination for adventurous globetrotters. Naturally, there is no doubt it is a hidden pearl with much to offer to the curious explorer.
From the beautiful architecture of the mosques to the stunning gardens of Shiraz, there is plenty to fall in love with. Of course, Anthony Bourdain would have some tips on where to eat perfumed saffron rice or tasty meatballs stuffed with eggs.
Although dearly missed, Anthony Bourdain taught us a lot about the world and its wonders. To dream of traveling with him again, you can still play your favorite episode of his show.
