Disney recently released a highly anticipated trailer for The Little Mermaid. When the trailer was released, it was met with a lot of excitement.

Unfortunately, the film also got a lot of negative reactions from fans due to its visual effects. As of 13 September, the trailer had over 1.5 million dislikes on YouTube.

YouTube has changed its dislike counter so people cannot see the number of dislikes on a video. However, a popular plug-in can be used to see how many people dislike a video.

According to the comments people shared online, the fans are claiming that Ariel does not look like she is underwater as she should.

These visual effects are the reason many people don't think the video is not up to the mark.

The film is a live-action adaptation of a Disney film and stars Halle Bailey as Ariel. The movie also includes Melissa McCarthy, Awkwafina, and many others.

The trailer went viral after parents started to share how their children reacted to the video on TikTok. Most of the children were young Black girls.

The film's casting choice had many people thinking Disney had done the right thing by casting a Black actress as Ariel.

This reaction proves that people consider representation to be significant in entertainment. After all, a lot of people would like to grow up seeing people who look just like them playing such roles.

The appreciation for representation is evident in a little girl's reaction after watching the trailer. In the TikTok video, a girl called Sienna appeared wide-eyed with a big smile.

After Ariel was revealed at the end of the trailer, the amused kid asks: "That is her? That is Ariel?"

Halle talked about the importance of getting the role of Ariel. She expressed her gratitude for having to play a role in considering that she is Black.

She feels the role will be a huge inspiration for other Black and brown kids who will feel represented by her.

Halle Bailey also claimed that if she had seen that if she were younger, she would have a different perspective today.
