My Perfect Landing
The first season of this Canadian teen drama hits Netflix in August. My Perfect Landing follows a family of gymnasts as they make the life-changing move from Miami to Toronto. The show has aired on the BBC and Sky in the UK but will be making its Netflix debut on August 1st.
Pick Of The Litter
Brace yourselves, folks, because this 2018 documentary film is the sweetest thing you'll ever see. In the movie, the filmmakers follow puppies as they're trained to be seeing-eye dogs. Can you think of anything better?! This adorable doc arrives on Netflix on August 2nd.
The Peanut Butter Falcon
For those that didn't catch this movie featuring Shia LaBeouf, now's your chance. Zack Gottsagen stars as a young man with Down's Syndrome who steps out on a road of discovery alongside grizzled fisherman Tyler, played by LeBeouf. The movie is an updated version of The Tales of Huckleberry Finn and was the highest-grossing independent film of 2019.
El Robo Del Siglo /The Great Heist
Colombian series El Robo del Siglo, or The Great Heist, is based on the 1994 bank robbery of the Bank of Republic in Colombia. Season one of the series hits Netflix on August 14th and is based partly on Alfredo Serrano Zabala's book. This is How I Robbed the Bank: The Assault of the 20th Century in Colombia. Fans of Money Heist will want to watch this one!
Connected
The first season of this new six-part science docuseries is coming to Netflix on August 2nd. In the series, science journalist Latif Nasser explores the connections between ourselves, the Earth, and the Universe. The series explores topics like nuclear weapons, the cloud, search engines, and even Beyoncé.
The Rain
On August 6th, the third season of apocalyptic Danish sci-fi The Rain arrives on Netflix. The show first premiered in 2018 and has garnered a global following since then. In The Rain, a virus transported by rainfall causes the near extinction of humanity. Sadly, that situation isn't as far-fetched as it once seemed!
Selling Sunset
For those of you that enjoy glossy drama, surgically enhanced women, and lavish real estate, turn to season 3 of Selling Sunset on August 7th. The reality show is based in the real estate offices of The Oppenheim Group and follows a gaggle of gorgeous gals as they navigate work, love, and friendships. Season 2 premiered in May 2020, so we're lucky to get Season 3 so quickly!
Friday Night Dinner
This British sitcom has been airing since 2011, and its fifth season arrives on Netflix on August 1st. The family comedy focuses on the weekly dinners of the middle-class British Jewish Goodman family and stars comedy veteran Tamsin Greig and The Inbetweeners favorite Simon Bird. If you fancy a laugh, give this BAFTA-nominated show a go.
Work It
This brand new dance comedy film starring Sabrina Carpenter and Jordan Fisher hits screens on August 7th. The coming-of-age movie follows Quinn Ackerman as she puts together a rag-tag group of dancers to take on the school's biggest dance squad. As huge fans of Honey, Save the Last Dance and Step Up, Work It sounds right up our street!
The New Legends Of Monkey
This Australian-New Zealand TV show is inspired by cult Japanese TV drama Monkey. In the new series, a young monk is escorted by a group of gods while trying to collect lost scrolls. The show debuted in 2018 and was nominated for a host of awards. Season 2 has ten episodes and will be released on Netflix on August 7th.
Glow Up: Britain's Next Make-Up Star
Here's another reality TV gem, this time from the UK. We've had reality competition shows for fashion, food, and even bargain hunting – it's about time to have one for make-up. Hosted by Stacey Dooley, Glow Up puts its competitors through weekly challenges, creative briefs, and face-offs. If you love The Great British Baking Show and America's Next Top Model, you'll love this. It arrives on Netflix on August 14th.
Project Power
Project Power is a brand new superhero movie premiering on Netflix on August 14th. The blockbuster stars Jamie Foxx, Joseph-Gordon Levitt, and Dominique Fishback in a world where a new drug gives users superpowers. It sounds exciting!
Ojo's In D' House
For those that don't know and Hollywood and Bollywood, there's Nollywood – the Nigerian film industry. Actually, Nollywood produces more films than Hollywood, and Nigerian movies outsell Hollywood films in Africa. Anyway, Ojo's in D'House is a Nigerian sitcom that follows the rags to riches story of a middle-class Lagos family.
Lucifer
This fantasy series follows the Devil, who decides to leave Hell and run a nightclub in LA instead. Lucifer was canceled by Fox after three seasons, but Netflix swooped in and renewed it through to a sixth and final season. On August 21st, the first eight episodes of season 5 will land, with the rest coming later in the year.
Cobra Kai
This American action comedy-drama is based on The Karate Kid film series and features actors from the original movies. Cobra Kai is set 34 years after the first film and follows antagonist Johnny Lawrence as he reopens the karate dojo. This show started on YouTube and was bought by Netflix in 2020. Seasons 1 and 2 will be coming on August 28th, with a third to follow.
All Together Now
The new teen drama All Together Now started its life as Sorta Like a Rock Star, the name of the book that it's based on. Starring Moana herself - Auli'i Cravalho – the show follows Amber Appleton at the high school drama club, working at the donut shop, and hanging out at the local retirement home.
Wizards: Tales Of Arcadia
Did you know that Guillermo Del Toro made a trilogy of animated sci-fi TV shows? Because we certainly didn't! Wizards: Tales of Arcadia is part three of the series, which follows the inhabitants of suburban town Arcadia Oaks, home to a range of supernatural creatures. This show has scooped up a bunch of Emmys, so give it a go!
Dirty John
For those with a true-crime addiction, this anthology series will be of some interest. Season one followed the grizzly consequences of a romance with John Meehan, and Season 2 is entitled Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story. Featuring Connie Britton, Christian Slater, and Eric Bana, the show has picked up a host of fans.
John Was Trying To Contact Aliens
On August 20th, Netflix viewers can watch documentary short John Was Trying to Contact Aliens. As you might have guessed from the title, the doc explores John Shepherd as he attempts to make connections with outer space.
Green Leaf
Finally, the fifth and final season of American drama Green Leaf is coming to Netflix on August 12th. Executive produced by Oprah Winfrey, the mystery drama centers around the Greenleaf family who live in a huge mansion, attend a sprawling megachurch and hide a whole world of secrets and lies. With the final season airing this year, it's time to binge this hidden gem!
