ted bundy was given away as a mass murderer by these three things, expert says

Ted Bundy is one of the most talked-about serial killers in history. He was a master manipulator, charmer, and various experts are still trying to figure out his motives and the way his mind worked.

Before he was executed in 1989 in Florida, Bundy admitted to murdering over 30 women. There is no debate that Bundy was a psychopath, and many believe that the number of women he tortured, killed, and dismembered is much higher.

The killer left many questions unanswered, and the new true-crime documentary Ted Bundy: A Faking It Special sees experts in body language, speech, and forensic psychology examining his interview with the police in 1977.

Bundy was initially arrested for kidnapping and awaiting trial for a murder

In Ted Bundy: A Faking It Special, Dr. Cliff Lansley analyzes three key points or micro gestures that contradict Bundy’s claims of innocence and give him away as a killer.

The first sign is that Bundy would close his eyes while answering the police questions. According to the expert, he wanted to distance himself from the words to sound more convincing.

The second indicator is a one-sided shoulder shrug. According to Dr. Lansley, it implies that:

“This is a partial expression – leakage – of the full expression of ‘I have no idea what I’m talking about.”

Finally, there is a move, which Dr. Lansley called “little head shake no.” He explained:

“When you’re saying something affirmative, but your body is leaking something in the negative, you can trust the body. Because most of these body signals are below consciousness.”

The expert further added:

“What gives us a clue is a few seconds further on, we get this stare right down the camera lens. I think he knows he’s slipped up; this camera check is a semi-conscious check-in of his audience to see if he’s getting away with it.”

Bundy only seemed relaxed and was hiding behind his superficial charm

As Dr. Lansley pointed out, the infamous killer only appeared to be relaxed. In reality, he was under a lot of stress.

During the interview, Bundy is spotted laughing, and the doctor explained that this was also a significant giveaway:

“That laughter can give him two results. One is that it gives him breathing space because we only need three or four seconds to think of two sentences; our minds work very quickly. It could give him thinking space.”

“But it also helps him with his report and this charm where he can engage and influence others.”

Lansley additionally spoke about Bundy’s blinking:

“When we see rapid blinks together, it gives us an indication that someone is thinking hard. Now, we call that cognitive load, and that’s exactly what we get here.”

“And also, a little licking of the lips. So, we know he is experiencing emotional load.”

Bundy was found guilty of carrying out the Florida State University killings and the murder of Kimberley Leach and was handed three death sentences.
