While serving as a substitute teacher, 27-year-old Loryn Barclay gave oral sex and even had sex with a 17-year-old Monett High School student in Missouri. However, despite confessing to the crime, she got away with what many consider a slap on the wrist.
The female teacher gave the student oral sex at the recreation center and then had sex with him at his family's home.
Barclay was a paraprofessional, helping students with unique needs. However, it did not take long before the institution found out that she was sexually involved with a student.
In fact, the teacher had to be relieved of her duties just a couple of months after she was hired.
Trouble for the woman began when someone at the school pointed out that there was a strange relationship between the teacher and a 17-year-old student.
When an official at the school met with the student later, the boy described various sexual encounters between him and the teacher.
After the official confronted Barclay about the allegations, she admitted to having an "improper relationship" with the student. She even claimed that she had sex with the student two times at his home and also gave him oral sex in a vehicle at North Park.

Teacher Charged In Two Counties
Once the teacher's crimes were out in the open, she faced four charges of sexual contact involving a minor. The charges were recorded in Barry County and Lawrence County.
The inappropriate relationship grew through online media and instant messaging. Their bond also grew based on "leisure activities and common interests."
Apparently, the boy took an interest in Barclay, and later, he requested to see her outside the school and she agreed.
The woman got a reduced sentence because 17 years is the age of consent in Missouri. The more serious charges were dropped.
However, since the boy was 17, the teacher still faced a class D lawful offense.

Barclay was still quite close to getting locked up in jail. Luckily, she got a three-year suspended sentence and five years of probation.
In addition, she is not to have any contact with the boy or his family, and she also has to register as a sex offender.
Although 17 is the age of consent, adults in authority taking advantage of minors under their charge face harsh legal consequences. Such unions represent a serious breach of professional trust.
Sadly, stories of this kind are becoming more popular today.
The jokes people make about these cases don't help matters either. For instance, some people ask where these kinds of teachers were when they were in school.
However, when the offender is a male teacher, there is often an uproar. For this reason, many female offenders get a pass or a slap on the wrist.

The sad truth is that cases of teachers taking sexual advantage of their students seem to be on the rise. Hopefully, serious legal consequences for those found guilty of the offense will serve as a warning to any teachers who might have the intention of doing the same in the future.
