Stevie Nicks Says If She Hadn’t Had An Abortion ‘There Would Have Been No Fleetwood Mac’

Nicks claim the band Fleetwood Mac wouldn't exist if she hadn't ended a pregnancy in 1979.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Nicks discussed the hard-won abortion rights feminists achieved in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

The iconic singer-songwriter said she had to terminate a pregnancy while dating Eagles singer Don Henley to save her music career.

Commenting on her decision to have an abortion, Nicks said:

If I had not had that abortion, I'm pretty sure there would have been no Fleetwood Mac.

There's just no way that I could have had a child then, working as hard as we worked constantly.

And there were a lot of drugs, I was doing a lot of drugs … So, I would have had to walk away.

Nicks added that her career was more important to her than having a child at that point in her life.

She said:

I knew that the music we were going to bring to the world was going to heal so many people's hearts and make people so happy.

I thought: you know what? That's really important. There's not another band in the world that has two lead women singers, two lead women writers.

That was my world's mission.

During an interview with Variety, Nicks reiterated her fears about what the future may hold regarding the upcoming Presidential elections.

She said:

Abortion rights were really my generation's fight.

If President Trump wins this election and puts the judge he wants in, she will absolutely outlaw it and push women back into back-alley abortions.

I lived through the '60s, and I've seen all this. I fought for Roe vs. Wade…

And I don't want to live in a country that is so divisive. I go, like, well, if this starts over and there are another four years of this, then I'm going.

But we're not welcome anywhere.

She continued:

So, where can I go? And I'm thinking, 'Oh, space.'

Maybe I can talk Elon Musk into giving us a jet and letting me pick 50 people, and we're like the arc.

Someone can take us and let us live on another planet until the next four years are over.

Meanwhile, Fleetwood Mac's music has received a new lease on life after a TikTok trend #dreamschallenge went viral.

Idaho TikTok star Nathan Apodaca originally coined the challenge.

Apodaca went viral after uploading a skateboarding video while drinking Ocean Spray's cranberry juice after his car broke down.

The Fleetwood Mac 1977 song Dreams played in the background of the video.
