The votes have been counted, and the results are in; Staffordshire Bull Terriers are officially Britain's favorite dog.
After a despondent background that sees many people associate the dogs with aggressive behavior, Staffies are finally being shown in a positive new light.
A poll of 10,000 people took place for the show Britain's Favorite Dogs last week, and dog-loving viewers everywhere watched as the country's 217 recognized dog breeds were whittled down to a top 100.
The show lasted two and a half hours, but that's understandable considering what was at stake. It must have been heartbreaking for those in charge to have to let the other four-legged babies down.
With that in mind, I'd just like to send a quick message to whichever dogs didn't make the top 100; lots of belly rubs and treats.
Personally, being a Staffie owner, my heart is doing some major smiles.
The 2019 results saw last year's winner, the Labrador, drop to third place, while the fluffy Cockapoo came in second behind Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
Staffies came in fourth place last year.
The top 10 favorite dogs also included Springer Spaniels, Cocker Spaniel, Boxers, Border Collies, Golden Retrievers, and German Shepherds.
Despite the unfavorable negative stereotype often assigned to Staffies, much of the nation seemed overjoyed to hear they'd taken the crown for Britain's Favorite Dog.
Hopefully, with the help of their new title, the unfair portrayal of Staffies as aggressive dogs will soon be dispelled altogether. People realize it's not the breed it's the owner. Just like a gun won't go off unless a human pulls the trigger.
After hearing the results, one pleased Twitter user wrote:
"Not surprised that Staffies are Britain's favorite dog breed. Every Staffy I've met has been an absolute delight."
While another dog-lover added:
"So happy the Staffy was voted Britain's Number One Favorite Dog! This amazing breed is finally getting the recognition they deserve and getting rid of the stigma they don't deserve. I hope this will increase the number of Staffies adopted from rescue centers!"
Congratulations, Staffies! Let's hope they get showered with love, treats, and car rides. They deserve their win.
