Binzer was immersed in the music industry from a young age, finding inspiration to create rap music after discovering the Beastie Boys' album 'Licensed to Ill.'

He teamed up with Bret 'Epic' Mazur in the early 1990s to form Crazy Town. According to Variety, they initially made music under the name Brimstone Sluggers before eventually rebranding as Crazy Town.

Despite having a clear vision, the band didn't achieve success right away.

Their first two singles from the debut album 'The Gift of Game' did not make it onto the charts. However, the album also featured 'Butterfly,' a love song that incorporated a riff from the Red Hot Chili Peppers' instrumental, 'Pretty Little Ditty.'

The track gained widespread popularity after its physical release in 2001.

As the band finally began receiving the recognition it deserved, they worried that the single would come to define them.

Binzer remarked: "A song like 'Butterfly' is a no-brainer. Everyone seems to love that [one], no matter how hard they are."

"It's very radio-friendly, the female audience loves it and at the same time I think we kept our integrity with it."

The band's concerns proved to be valid—they were unable to replicate the success of 'Butterfly,' and in 2002, Crazy Town disbanded following the disappointing sales of their second album, 'Darkhorse.'

Binzer went on to achieve moderate success in Europe as a solo artist with his album 'Happy Love Sick.'

Throughout his life, Binzer was open about his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, even participating in the reality TV shows Celebrity Rehab and Sober House.

In 2012, the musician was reportedly hospitalized after losing consciousness and falling into a coma, though he eventually recovered.

That same year, TMZ reported that Binzer was arrested on charges of battery and drug possession.

In 2022, he faced DUI charges, and in 2023, he had an altercation with Crazy Town guitarist Bobby Reeves, according to TMZ.

Prior to his unexpected passing, Binzer posted messages online about being 'sober' and described himself as a 'black sheep.'

In an Instagram post from April 28, the singer candidly expressed his need for love, writing: "I'm a lover than a fighter… but the one I need to love more instead of fight with is myself… mr shifty true love # sober alive and grateful."

The accompanying image was a nighttime shot of graffiti on the ground, featuring the words "True Love" in black and pink ink, along with "Long Beach" and a heart.

In another post from the same day, Binzer spoke to those who feel like 'loners.'

He wrote: "The black sheep, the odd ducks, the rejects, the eccentrics, the loners, the lost and forgotten. More often than not, these people have the most beautiful souls."

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has verified that Binzer passed away at his residence in Los Angeles on Monday, June 24.

An inquiry is currently in progress to ascertain the cause of the singer's death.

According to TMZ, authorities are investigating the possibility of a fatal overdose. Although an autopsy has been conducted, the cause of death has been 'deferred,' meaning no conclusion can be drawn until the results of the toxicology report are available.

Binzer's former bandmate Mazur informed TMZ that their late friend seemed to be in good spirits before his death.
