A Florida mother is not happy with her daughter getting spanked at school in her presence. The principal did it without her permission, and she could soon be in court answering criminal charges.

The police are looking into Principal Melissa Carter's conduct after she paddled the girl last month. However, she is not the only person who could be in trouble over the incident.

The school clerk, Cecilia Self, is also under investigation for assisting Carter.

The girl's crime was causing damage worth $50 on a computer screen. This happened at the Central Elementary School in Clewiston.

After her daughter's mistake, the mother was called into the school. However, since she does not speak very good English, she did not understand what had happened.

While heading there, she thought she was going to be asked to pay for the damage her girl had caused. Instead, she was taken to the principal's office, where the principal said something about paddling.

The mother had no idea what she was being told.

After that, the principal started to hit the daughter, and the incident was quite horrifying:

"The hatred with which she hit my daughter, I mean it was a hatred that, really I've never hit my daughter like she hit her."

She spoke these words in Spanish as she cried:

"I had never hit her."

She also explained that she started recording the spanking after realizing what was going on. This was after realizing there were no cameras in the office.

"My daughter was already in the office. The principal started to scream."

Based on reports from the authorities, corporal punishment is not legal in Hendry County.

Brent Probinsky, a lawyer, is representing the family in the case. He confirmed that the police were still investigating the incident.

He explains that the incident was "aggravated battery" and that they were using "a weapon that can cause severe physical harm."

The family is still waiting to see if the district attorney's office will open a case against the principal and the clerk.

He also said that the incident had negatively affected the girl:

"The child is terrified. She feels vulnerable. There's nothing she can do in the hands of these adults, who treated her so brutally, savagely, sadistically."

People are also enraged after seeing the brutal punishment the girl received for her mistake.
