Prince Philip passed away on Friday. He was 99 years old and in and out of hospitals due to his heart condition. The burning question among the media on both sides of the pond was: will Harry and Meghan attend the funeral?
According to confirmed sources, Prince Philip's grandson, Prince Harry, will travel to his homeland to pay the final respects to his grandfather.
However, his wife, Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, who is expecting the child's second baby, is advised to stay at home in California.
Prince Philip's Funeral
The funeral of Her Majesty's husband will take place on April 17 at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle.
It will be a family gathering due to Covid-19 restrictions.
The Palace statement said that Prince died peacefully:
"It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh."
"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss."
Prince Charles Speaks To The Press
Prince Charles, the first child of The Queen, and Prince Philip briefly talked to the press on Saturday. He said that he and his family "miss my father enormously" and that they are "deeply touched" by people around the world who shared their loss.
The Prince of Wales added:
"My dear papa was a very special person, who above all else would have been amazed by the reaction and the touching things that have been said about him."
Prince Philip will not have the state funeral or lying-in-state, The College of Arms revealed. They added that this is "in line with custom and His Royal Highness's wishes."
Meghan And Harry's Reaction
Meghan, Harry, and their son Archie, left the UK in January 2020.
The Sussexes live in Montecito, California, but they have Frogmore Cottage on Windsor Castle's ground.
The couple recently did a tell-all with Oprah. This is why everyone wanted to know if they would come to the UK now that Prince Philip passed away.
However, as now pregnant Meghan revealed last summer, she had a miscarriage sometime in 2020. Her doctors advised her not to travel especially since we're in the middle of the pandemic.
The couple issued a brief statement on their website after hearing that The Duke passed away. According to numerous sources, Prince Harry was close to his grandfather. Yet, it's more than reasonable not to expect a heavily pregnant woman to fly during the pandemic.
