If you were given a chance to do something good and change the world, what would you do? Most people would start by explaining why getting more money would be the first step.
But guess what? A Brazilian priest is doing incredible things without such worries getting in the way.
Father Joao Paulo Araujo Gomes Wants Stray Dogs To Feel Loved
And so, he brings these homeless animals to church as he conducts his Sunday service so that families can take them home and care for them.
The man of cloth looks after the dogs, which are at his rectory. Usually, they are found wandering around looking for new owners.
But he takes them in and can make them more appealing to people attending the Sunday service who then take them up for adoption.
So that people can have a better idea of how charming the dogs are, he allows them to attend the main service.
As the service is going on, potential owners can see them and fall in love with them. And hopefully, once the service is over, they can take them home and give them a forever home.
The dogs are quite adorable, and they cheer up the service with their cute antics.
For instance, the dogs take naps at the alter, and they usually like it when members of the congregation give them belly rubs during the service.
But How Did All This Begin?
Father Joao Paulo got this brilliant idea in the most unusual way. He was offered cookies by a member of the congregation.
Then he left them out during mass and people could not get enough of them. They ate them all.
Later, he would find a kennel with 96 dogs, and he thought if the congregation would eat up the cookies so fast, then they would have no problem taking home some adorable pets in need of loving homes.
He shed more light on what inspired him to do this for the dogs.
"… I began to bring the dogs to mass, with the same hopes of giving them away. In six months, I finished this process. All dogs were adopted.
Now I work with street dogs. They sometimes come into the church looking for food and water."
So, just like that, a beautiful story of a father who has endless love for a pooch in need began.
The priest also explained that during the Sunday service, the issue of stray dogs causing problems sometimes comes up.
Therefore, he has taken it upon himself to teach people how to take care of stray and homeless dogs.
So far, he is a happy man since the church is really supportive of his dream of giving these animals a loving home.
The Impact Of His Work Is Already Being Felt
Right now, there has been a considerable decline in the number of stray dogs in the city.
But he is not the man to preach water and drink wine.
Personally, he has adopted three puppies, and he sometimes spends the night in the same bed with them.
Wow. How's that for amazing?
