Not long ago, the European Beach Handball Championships have ended with the victory of the Danish team. The Danish girls won the gold medal fair and square.
However, one thing started spreading like poison ivy, got between the euphoria of their victory, and kind of stole the show.
It's funny how stereotypes and sexist situations always revolve around women in sports.
A Scandal At The European Beach Handball Championship

The final handball match was played between the Danish and the team of Norway.
As mentioned, the Danish girls dominated in their game and won the final match. And it's true - the winner takes it all, the loser has to fall.
Still, the team of Norway didn't give up easily at all.
But this time, their protests were not related to missing the opportunity to win the Championship. It was something of a vital nature. And we should be proud of these brave women who were not afraid to tell and show the things that bothered them.
The team of Norway protested against the uniform requirements. Instead of wearing bikini bottoms, they wore shorts during one of their games.
And that was an awesome silent protest against rules that don't make any sense.
Pointless Rules Are Everywhere

This great move of the Norwegian women team went viral, and the whole world found out the details about this story.
The ladies explained how they've always felt uncomfortable with the uniform they were required to wear during their games.
Beach, high temperatures, sand, and bikini bottoms are not the best option when you need to play handball.
Moreover, when they tried to point at this issue, they got a warning.
The girls were warned: if they wore anything different than their uniform during their games, they would be fined. Simple as that.
And that wasn't all. If they decided to bypass this rule, they would be fined or disqualified.
What a time to be alive, indeed!
The Story About Norway's Brave Women

All girls were familiar with those ground rules they were required to follow.
However, they decided to make a point by doing what their gut told them to do. Stand tall, and rock on their shorts.
And they did it! They wore shorts at some of their games.
In the end, the Norwegian team got a fine for disrespecting the rules of the International Handball Federation's uniform requirements.
They were penalized with €1,500 ($1,766) in total.
But these women weren't alone in what they did.
We live in a world where the voice of women gets heard sometimes, and Internet society was offering their support.
Another awesome thing about this situation is that it somehow got to P!nk, the amazing singer and one and only feminist star we admire.
Pink Saves The Day

A couple of days ago, Pink (P!nk) decided to go public and point to the sexist side of this case that shooked the whole world.
She shared on Twitter how she admired these brave women:

Pink also made a note that this kind of subtle sexism shouldn't be allowed. Instead of fining the Norwegian team and inventing rules that don't make any sense at all, the European Handball Federation should take the blame.
The blame, the fines, and everything else.
Pink's tweet went viral and got nearly 200k likes.
The good thing is, most people support the athletes. However, as in everything else before, people were taking sides about this situation too. And some of them were not that open to offering support.

We Love It When Celebrities Don't Have The God Complex

When we mention celebrities, we often think of some people who have their heads high in the clouds.
And when we see how some of them react to situations like this one with the Women's Handball team of Noway, it's crystal clear that they are just ordinary people like us.
At least P!nk is.
She didn't give up this fight. P!nk knew that her Instagram account has a larger audience and shared her revolt there too. And thanks to her, the whole world knows about what happened at the European Beach Handball Championship.
All Norwegian athletes responded to the post on her story and thanked the musician for being their greatest support through this.
One of the athletes posted:
"Thank you so much for all the support. We really appreciate all the love we have received. You're the best."
Norwegian women are not fighting only for themselves, but for all women who participate in sports like this one.
Small Steps Count Too

After P!nk used the power of her social media accounts to explain that this is not something that should be put under the rug, the EHF finally woke up from their vacay mode.
P!nk also offered to cover the amount of money the team needed for their fine, but EHF had already taken care of that issue.
The European Handball Federation offered their help when the situation got quite the attention of all media. And they claimed that they donated the fine to a foundation that helps to promote equality in sports.
Michael Wiederer, the president of EHF, claimed:
"We are committed though to doing all we can to influence this."
He also tried to explain something else:
"I would also like to underline that it was never the players who were fined, but solely—and according to the regulations—the Norwegian Handball Federation."
Women play sports. And they're good at it. Women got where they are due to their talent and smart work. They don't deserve to deal with pointless and sexist rules.
The Right Moves

The women from the Norwegian handball team confirmed that the step EHF made was something indeed.
All of this may sound like something insignificant or meaningless for some people. But only women in sports know how hard it is to be taken seriously in such activity dominated by the man's world.
