A picture on Instagram shows what looks like discrimination of Black children at a Kids 'R' Kids preschool. In the shot, the white kids are eating while their Black classmates wait for food.
The father of one of the Black children now demands explanations for the troubling episode.
A Shameful Incident At A Preschool
An Instagram post revealed poor treatment of Black children at a Kids 'R' Kids preschool in Roswell, Georgia. This caused strong reactions in the community.
A man called Marquis shared some footage from his child's classroom on Instagram. While the white kids are all eating, the Black students seem to be still waiting for their servings.
In the caption, the man wrote:
"This is truly unbelievable. You better know this won't be the last time you hear from me on this. Why does every white kid have their food? Not one Black child has food in front of them! Thank God for cameras in classrooms because there is no way to hide this racism."
He further expressed his indignation, stating:
"As Blacks, we always strive to send our kids to schools in suburban areas, but I'm telling you first hand that is not always best. This is not a Black or white issue. This is simply wrong. @kidsrkidscorporate I'll be waiting [for] feedback from your corporate office on this."
The Response From Kids 'R' Kids
According to David Vinson, president and CEO of Kids 'R' Kids International, this was a "random and isolated" event. He then apologized for the incident and highlighted the importance of inclusion for the company.
After reexamining the case, he also confirmed the end of the contract with the preschool in question. He stated:
"The interactions captured on video by one of our families yesterday is disturbing and not in accordance with the inclusive culture that we promote at Kids 'R' Kids amongst our families, their children, or our staff. We apologize to the family, the community, and all of those impacted by the situation and will use this as a learning tool to remind our Kids 'R' Kids staff on the importance of diversity and inclusivity."
Vinson concluded by offering help to any family in need of help looking for a different preschool.
While the company responded promptly and acted fast, it is shameful that episodes like this still happen. There is more work to do to make every environment a truly inclusive one.
