The recent surge in popularity of the petition comes as no surprise, as Amber is in the middle of a defamation trial against her ex-husband, Johnny Depp.

Jeanne Larson, who started the petition, writes that Amber has been exposed as an abuser. They described several alleged incidents, including the one when Depp was punched in the face twice and another when his finger was shattered with a bottle.

The petition, which calls for DC Warner Bros to remove Amber Heard from the sequel of Aquaman, also says that Amber was previously arrested for violence against her ex-partner, Tasya Van Ree.

Jeanne Larson created it in late 2020 after Depp was replaced as Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

The trial between the exes continues on Monday. Ellen Barkin will give a video testimony in Amber's defense.

Heard's sister Whitney Henriquez will also testify on behalf of the actress.

The trial should end by the end of the month, though it may be longer for the jurors to come to a decision.

Regarding the Remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2 petition, it reads that men are victims of domestic violence, which "must be recognized, and action must be taken to prevent a known abuser from being celebrated within the entertainment industry."

The next goal is 4.5 million signatures. Aquaman 2 will premiere in 2023.
