Following the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, petitions are circulating online, targeting the group.

These petitions came after the Virginia man, who drove into protesters, admitted he had ties to the KKK.

Though they don't wear them often, traditionally, KKK members would don pointed white hoods that'd cover the entire face — apart from the eyes.

These white-hooded cloaks have become a renowned symbol for white supremacy.

In recent years, the members of the group have drastically dwindled. However, there are still a small number of loyal racists abiding by its archaic values.

Now, People Want The Group To End

Many people are appealing to the federal government to make KKK membership illegal.

Activists have created dozens of petitions to ensure democrats abolish and declare it a terrorist group.

Two Of The Petitions Have The Whole Internet Talking

As of June 26, one of the petitions demanding "Change KKK status into Terrorist Organization" has over 2,200,000 signatures.

The petition description, on Change.org, reads:

"Black Americans have suffered the most under this terror group."

"Terrorism is the use of violence and intimidation in pursuit of political aims."

"We ask if ISIS or ISIL is labeled a terrorist group for their acts, then surely the KKK fits the clear description of a terrorist."

The vast amount of participation is partially due to the transparency and momentum facilitated by social media platforms.

The second petition demanding "Make the KKK Illegal" has attracted over 1,900,000 signatures.

The petition reads:

"The Ku Klux Klan is a white supremacist hate group with the historic background of terrorism, including countless physical assaults and murders."

"The KKK is still active in certain parts of the country and has public rallies. Hate should not be a way to bring the communities together, nor should it be allowed or tolerated."

These petitions have a goal of attaining 3,000,000 signatures at the time of writing.
