One Woman Tweeted That Men Should Stop Holding Doors Open For Women And Compares It To 'Putting A Dog On A Leash'

A woman leaves the internet riled up after tweeting men should 'stop holding doors for women' as it's like 'putting a leash on a dog.'

From a young age, we've all been taught it's good manners to hold a door open for others, whether it's men or women.

However, if you're a man and you still hold doors for women, you're a 'massive sexiest,' according to one Twitter user.

Writing under Twitter handle @UnbiasedKatie—now suspended—one woman recently tweeted an instruction that goes against everything society teaches us.

Addressing men, Kate wrote:

Dear Men:

Stop holding the door open for Women when entering a store.

This implies that you believe Women are incapable of doing things for themselves [and] that you view them as incompetent.

This can be compared to bucking the seat belt of a toddler / putting a leash on a dog.

However, instead of Katie getting praises and cheers from women and men who stand for feminism, they quickly shut her down.

One male user replied:

Dear Katie, you're wrong.

Men DO NOT hold doors open for women because we think you're not able to think for yourselves.

We hold the door open because we [learned good] manners as children.

I was brought up by a wonderful woman who taught me to respect women and my elders.

A female user also discredited Kate's claims, saying:

Dear Katie: I'm a woman. I often hold doors open for people and like it when they offer me the same courtesy.

I see it as a courtesy and human decency, not patronizing. Please don't presume to speak for all women.

[Men] please ignore this rude woman.

Meanwhile, another Twitter user—who also stated he's a dad—replied to Katie, writing:

Dear Katie, I've just come back from a #bookshop on #BookshopDay, and I was with my 11-year-old daughter.

I always hold the door open for women, men, and kids because that's [human courtesy]. And I'm passing those manners onto my kids.

However, unimpressed with his reply, Unbiased Katie—who also describes herself as 'open-minded' in her bio—replied to the dad.

She said:

Well, you are bringing your daughter up with patriarchal ideals.

Another woman replied to Katie's original post, saying:

I always appreciate someone holding the door open for me, male or female. And I always extend the same courtesy.

It's called manners.

But Katie responded:

Then you are suffering from internalized misogyny.

Turns out, No One Agreed With Katie's Ideology

So, is holding a door open for someone an archaic sexist gesture that's contributing to the 'misogynistic patriarchy?' Or is it 'just good manners?'

At least the internet came together and agreed on one thing.
