A former math teacher, Christina Sosbe, 29, is sentenced to a year in prison after taking male students aged 16 to the local hotel and having sex with them.

She will serve the punishment at Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville and will be registered as a Tier Three Sex Offender.

Sosbe was initially charged with three counts of sexual battery, equivalent to a third-degree felony. The authorities offered her a plea deal to avoid the case from going to trial.

Assistant Prosecutor Gabe Wildman said Sosbe was a teacher at the Choffin Career and Technical Center in Youngstown when she had sex with the students.

The teenagers and the teacher developed a mutual trust, so Christina took them to a hotel on Courthouse Square. This is where she had sex with both boys.

It is unclear who brought attention to this crime, primarily since she was employed in Pace at the time the crime took place.

She initially faced up to five years in prison if convicted of all three counts. The plea deal offered her a light sentence in the light of her actions.

The light sentence does not mean that Sosbe's crimes were not severe, but the fact that she was not the boys' teacher when they had sex made it possible to face five but only get to one year of prison time.

The 29-year-old's license to teach was permanently revoked last year.
