Would you like to know something cool? You can light your room with nothing but boiled potatoes for more than a month.
Your power company might not be thrilled to hear that, but it's pretty exciting.
Let's face it. There are times you can find yourself without power. Remember what happened in Texas just a couple of weeks ago?
Lots of people were plunged into darkness after a vicious storm swept through many homes in the state, causing widespread power outages.
Apparently, boiled potatoes can light your house comfortably for a decent amount of time. Needless to say, there is a no cooler and kickass way to power up your home.
These are just regular potatoes, the kind you use to make some of your favorite foods. So, this is just another reason to love potatoes.
Potatoes are delicious, which is why they go into mashed potatoes, fries, tater tots, and so forth. The list is practically endless.
However, besides being incredibly delicious, potatoes have a secret ability to act as batteries.
That's quite amazing, right?
This invention is the work of a professor called Haim Robinowitch. He works at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
The inventive scholar discovered that when you put two metal rods into a potato, the process sets in motion a chemical process that essentially turns it into a battery.
That is not the coolest thing about this discovery, however. Apparently, when the potato is boiled for 8 minutes, it packs a lot more energy.
Like a lot more.
Believe it or not, that is not the best thing about this source of power, however. Further research into this great invention discovered that this power source was 6 times cheaper than your typical AA battery.
Generally, a boiled potato can give you enough power to light your room for up to 40 days. How incredible is that?
Based on this news, it seems like it's time for all of us to start making potato batteries in case a time comes when we might need the emergency power.
From my point of view, potatoes should be part of everyone's emergency survival kit. If they can provide that much power, then they are certainly convenient.
