MTV VMAs 2020 are happening. Of course, there will be significant changes, and here's all we know so far.

This year's ceremony will be held at New York City's Barclays Center on Saturday, Aug. 30. But, performances will be held in five other locations as well, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Staten Island, Queens, and Manhattan.

Video Music Awards will be the first music event in New York City since the pandemic started. Since COVID-19 shows no signs of slowing down, there will be strict safety measures.

Naturally, social distancing will be an essential part of these VMAs. Show producers are working closely with state officials to make sure that everyone involved feels safe.

The Show Must Go On

The show will go on, as a way to show "strength, spirit and incredible resilience of NYC and its beloved residents," a press release says.

Bringing back the famous show to New York City is vital, due to the fact that the city is a cultural mecca. But, considering how bad things got in the Big Apple at some point, this is a beautiful tribute to all the front-line workers as well as people of New York.

This isn't the first award show, but it's the first one in NYC. The announcement comes two days after the BET Awards took place in Los Angeles.

For their 20th anniversary, BET Awards chose to do the virtual show, for the first time in their history.

MTV VMAs 2020 To Test The Waters

A month later, if everything goes according to plan, Emmy awards will take place.

As the first major live event in the pandemic, MTV VMAs are testing the waters, to make sure that artists, crews, and fans get some sense of normalcy while staying healthy.

Since the pandemic isn't going anywhere, life, as we know, takes different forms. It's not all about glitz and glamour, and superstars. These gigs provide work for many people who are depending on similar events.

Performers Unknown

The hosts, performers and special guests are still a secret.

At this point, we aren't even sure that MTV knows who will perform and who will drop out. No wonder, since everything about COVID-19 is unpredictable.

And no, we're not talking about the worst-case scenario. At this point, no one is quite sure what the airlines will say about future traveling.

Vital safety regulations are yet to be published, as well. New York governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the event would be held at Brooklyn's Barclays Center arena with limited or no audience.

At the same time, the show producers, are insisting that the MTV VMAs will not be entirely without fans. So, it's safe to say that many things are still up in the air.

Perhaps MTV will do a virtual show, but at least for now, the organizers are insisting on having a live show. Stay tuned!
