Opinions vary widely, and this is particularly true for sensitive subjects like child-rearing.

As a parent, I know there will be times when my approach to raising my child doesn't align with others' methods. That's okay, as every parent has their own responsibility towards their children, as long as they're not crossing any serious lines.

Some parents are very vocal about their parenting style on social media. They stand firm in their beliefs, and if you disagree, they often become even more outspoken.

This brings to mind an Australian mom who has stirred up conversation with her strong stance on consent. She believes in seeking her young daughter's consent for any physical contact, such as hugs or kisses.

In my own experience, I naturally respect this approach with my grandchildren and other young family members. I wait for them to initiate any physical affection, and if they're not in the mood, I'm okay with that, knowing they might feel differently next time.

However, some take this idea to an extreme. For instance, one mother suggested that you should ask your baby for consent before changing their diaper. This might be pushing the concept a bit too far.

Brittany Baxter, a mother, took to TikTok to express her strong opinions on this matter.

In her video, Brittany Baxter emphasizes, "Can we please start normalizing the fact that kids do not have to kiss and hug adults?"

"My daughter's almost two years old and I've been in the process of teaching her consent basically since the day that she's been born, and I find it really f***ing unhelpful when the adults in her life are like 'What?! We have to ask for a kiss and a hug?', even though I've explained why multiple times."

She notes that family members sometimes feel hurt if her daughter isn't in the mood for hugs or kisses, and they might ignore her personal boundaries anyway.

Brittany further explains: "My daughter and her body do not exist to make anyone feel more comfortable and to make anyone feel more loved, it is not her fault and it's not my fault that the older generation haven't taken the time throughout their entire lives to learn how to regulate their emotions so consent doesn't continue to be overlooked.

"No one's feelings are ever going to be more important than my daughter's right to her own body and I'm sure as s**t not going to allow her to grow up in an environment where 1. She doesn't know how to say no, and 2. She doesn't know what it looks like for her not to be respected."

The video sparked a lot of reactions, leading Brittany to disable comments. She even posted a follow-up video discussing how to approach the issue with relatives.

This raises a thought-provoking question: do you agree or disagree with her stance? The conversation is sure to continue.
