A federal intelligence alert has gone out to Chicago-area law enforcement with an ominous warning: More than 36 cold-blooded street gangs ‘have formed a pact to shoot-on-sight any cop’ that draws a weapon in public.
The FBI has told Chicago law enforcement that gangs are just looking for an excuse to shoot cops.
Confirming the ‘Potential Activity Alert’ from FBI officials, a Chicago police spokesperson said:
“We have been made aware of this threat by a law enforcement partner.”
“The Chicago Police Department takes all threats against officer safety seriously. We will take all necessary measures to safeguard our officers.”
The FBI usually issues a ‘Potential Activity Alert’ when there are potential threats to local law enforcement officials.
What Does the Alert Say?
The alert, which mentions around 36 gangs, says ‘members of these gang factions have been actively searching for, and filming, police officers while on official duties.
“The purpose of which is to catch on film an officer drawing his/her weapon on any subject.”
The gangs claim if they find a cop drawing a weapon on any person, they will shoot them ‘on site.’
Meanwhile, they will do this to garner national attention, the pacts says.
Some of the gangs behind this pact include the Black P Stones, El Rukns, Latin Kings and Vice Lords.
A spokesperson from the FBI’s Chicago Field Office initially said they had ‘no comment on this matter.’
However, the spokesperson said the FBI’s mission ‘has always been to protect the American people and uphold the Constitution.’
The representative added:
“In support of that mission, we regularly share critically important intelligence regarding violent crime and officer safety with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners.”
The situation in Chicago is Deteriorating
Recently, a man shot two Chicago cops while they were conducting a traffic stop in the city. However, it’s unclear whether that attack has any connection to the FBI’s warning.
One of the officers in that incident had to undergo surgery for lung and abdominal injuries. The other sustained injuries in the shoulder.
Chicago Police Supt. David Brown has said that he believes ‘people are seeking to do harm to cops.’
“I think it’s bigger than a suggestion.”
“I think 51 officers being shot at or shot in one year, I think that quadruples any previous year in Chicago’s history.”
“So I think it’s more than a suggestion that people are seeking to do harm to cops.”
