Michael's parents were uninformed about their son's disappearance until the evening. They promptly went to the nearby forested region where the "Lane County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue" investigation into Michael's disappearance yielded few clues as to his location.
Horses, drones, and numerous rescue volunteers were deployed in the search for the missing person at the campground in Dorena, Oregon, but the search ultimately failed to yield any results.

Tina Bryson, Michael's mother, said "By the time we found out, it had been almost twelve hours since he went missing. As soon as I stepped out of the car, I knew Michael was gone. People weren't actively searching for him, they were just sitting around drinking, eating, and laughing, so I had a feeling something had happened."
According to Michael's father, Parrish Bryson, the partygoers never gave a straightforward explanation about Michael's whereabouts, and he believes they have more information than they are disclosing.
"The accounts given by some of the people at the party are conflicting," Parrish said. "Many of them left the day Michael went missing, and continued to hold parties and gatherings."
According to him, despite many people leaving the campgrounds, a small group of friends and some strangers stayed behind to devote their time and efforts to searching for the missing Michael Bryson.
"We spent 19 days searching for our son at the campground," Parrish said. "And we're deeply appreciative of those who stayed and assisted us."
