Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the US.
But despite its prevalence, the disease is still mysterious, with its major causes remaining widely unclear to the scientific community.
Physical fitness, diet, smoking, and genetics—are all believed to play a role, though. But how about sex?
According to medical experts, the more you have sex, the less likely you are to catch the disease.
But how often should you do it?
Ebeneezer, a medical doctor and herbal practitioner encourages men to have sex at least 21 times a month to avoid the risk of prostate cancer.'
She insists on the need to have steady and frequent sex to avoid catching the diseases.
Her claim is based on a Harvard University study, published in the European Urology journal.
But it's not just sex.
Frequent masturbation can also reduce your risk of prostate cancer, as long as you ejaculate.
Dr. Stephen Freedland, the faculty physician in the urology division at the Cedars-Sinai Department of Surgery, also noted:
There are a couple of studies that show that more ejaculations are associated with a lower risk of prostate cancer.
Frequent Ejaculation And Prostate Cancer: What's The Link?
Researchers have found that men who ejaculate more frequently than a typical man can reduce prostate cancer risk by 33 percent.
And according to multiple studies, the optimal frequency of ejaculation is 21 times a month.
The theory is that frequent ejaculations help empty the prostate regularly, which prevents clogging of the ducts. Otherwise, it could cause inflammation.
So, preventing inflammation lowers the risk of prostate cancer.
But Dr. Freedland notes:
Importantly, the studies examined ejaculations—whether via sex or masturbation. Thus, we cannot separate those two out from each other.
Should Men, Therefore, Have More Sex In The Name Of 'Lowering Prostate Cancer Risk?'
Those who're already sexually active may benefit a lot from the results.
But those who aren't might be wondering, 'should I prioritize more sex—or at least ejaculating 21 times per month—for my health?
Well, Dr. Freedland says men can also benefit from prioritizing other lifestyle matters to reduce prostate cancer risk.
In terms of preventing prostate cancer, there is now compelling data that obesity and smoking are both linked with death from prostate cancer.
Similarly, the data seem to suggest benefits for more exercise too.
Thus, the best thing men can do is to obtain and maintain average body weight, don't smoke, and do exercise.
