Mark Strong Recalls Drunken Night With Daniel Craig That Ruined His James Bond Audition

Mark Strong's face is pretty familiar to us and we know how good he is in picturing a true villain.

In his latest movie, Cruella, playing as John the Valet he did a splendid job as the Baroness's right hand.

Recently, he shared something exciting about an offer for a particular role that he didn't get. And the reason behind it was just humorous.

The Role Of His Dreams

The actor recalled his memory and shared that in the 1990s, he was up for a part playing a villain in a James Bond movie. It was back in the days when Pierce Brosnan still was suiting up as 007.

Confident in everything he had to offer for that role, Mark explained that he took the night before off. He wanted to go out for a couple of pre-emptive celebratory drinks with his fellow actor.

It all sounded like fun and games before they both ended up getting a little bit carried away from the euphoria and sparks of joy.

Was it too soon to celebrate the success?

Recollecting The Memories

During his appearance on Sky One panel show There's Something About Movies, he recalled his memory and explained how it all went:

"I learned the lines… and to celebrate I went out for a drink, and I got p***ed."

He overdid it, and it was enough to leave him with an awful hangover the next day.

However, there was nothing that could stop him. And despite the raging hangover, Mark Strong wasn't about to miss out on the chance to appear in a James Bond film.

So he did it. He dragged himself over to the audition but there is no need to say that it didn't go well as he planned.

Strong claimed:

"I started, then I just forgot my lines, couldn't remember what they were and they all just kind of fell apart,' he told host Alan Carr. I was sweating. It was a terrible experience — but I really learned from it."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mark revealed the identity of the friend that was with him on the night he got drunk.

Who Was That Friend?

It was none other than the future James Bond himself, Daniel Craig.

Mark joked:

"The irony was, the guy I was out the night before getting pissed with was Daniel Craig. So I blame him!"

Before we all jump to our own conclusion, it's important to say that Craig was chosen for the leading role in the legendary franchise a whole decade later.

However, this event became their inside joke. And after all these years, it's still a hilarious twist of fate for the two good friends.

Learning From His Mistakes

This unpleasant experience hopefully taught Strong not to celebrate a role before you've landed it.

But hope dies last. And while he was starring in numerous other films, including spy comedies like Kingsman and Spy, he's yet to have another crack at making it into the world of 007.

Mark Strong was recently on all cinema screens alongside Emma Stone and Emma Thompson in Cruella.

Moreover, Craig's fifth and supposedly final turn as Bond in No Time To Die is expected to release on September 30. Regarding the ongoing pandemic situation, the movie had multiple delays and hopefully, we won't wait too long to finally enjoy it on the big screens.
