Man Comes To Rescue Of Woman Shamed On Flight

Man Comes To Rescue Of Woman Shamed On Flight

Some people hate traveling by plane. However, flying turned out to be a total nightmare for one woman while she was traveling from Oklahoma City to Chicago.

The problem was caused by an unkind passenger sitting next to her.

As she flies, Savannah Phillips likes to pick a window seat. She goes explicitly for a seat in a row where there's no one else.

Savannah has no problem talking to people; it's just that she has an intense fear of being judged:

"My worst nightmare is someone being uncomfortable because they have to sit next to me."

Savannah Could Not Pick Her Seat

However, this time, Savannah was not lucky. She was put next to an older gentleman with yellow sunglasses.

The man, possibly in his sixties, stood up to allow her to get to her window seat. He also revealed that he was a comedian.

However, his next decision suggested otherwise.

Before the plane could even take off, Savannah realized just how terrible the man could get. As a flight attendant gave a speech about safety, the man took out his phone.

Savannah could see what he was typing on the phone's screen, and she was horrified to see the man text somebody that he was sitting next to a "smelly fatty."

The Cruel Text Was Incredibly Hurtful

After seeing what the stranger next to her thought of her, Savannah was incredibly hurt. She was not even interested in reading the rest of the text:

"I don't even know what the rest of his text said. I turned my head away as fast as I could. I was shocked and it was like confirmation of the negative things I think about myself on a daily basis."

Due to the anxiety the experience caused, Savannah started feeling hot, and tears rolled down her face.

As she cried, her greatest hope was that the man would not dare make small talk with her. She had no idea how she would react if he tried to talk to her, and she feared that her reaction might get her thrown off the plane.

Coincidentally, Savannah was not the only person who saw the man's mean text. Chase Irwin also read it, and he knew the message was the reason Savannah was so upset.

He immediately took a video of the man and posted it on social media. Chase also captioned it with this message:

"This guy just text his wife that he is sitting next to a smelly fatty and is going to vomit. I watched her read his text and is now looking sad."

Doing Nothing Was Not An Option For Chase

Chase saw that Savannah was crying, and it was quite heartbreaking. He confessed to feeling "sick to his stomach" as a result.

That's when he decided to do something about it.

He Decided To Talk To The Guy

Chase tapped the elderly man and told him he wanted to talk to him. Chase then told the man that they were going to switch seats immediately.

This was confusing for Savannah. However, she soon realized what was going on after Chase said:

"You are texting about her, and I'm not putting up with that."

Chase Was Savannah's Hero

After they switched seats, Chase went a step further and tried to comfort and reassure Savannah by putting his arm around her.

Savannah recalls the kind gesture:

"He encouraged me not to let that guy get to me and that everything was going to be fine. We talked about Ross and the kids, his two year old son, our jobs, amongst other things."

Savannah also made sure he understood how much the gesture meant to her. She also revealed that he would be her husband's new favorite person based on his heroic actions.

The flight attendant tried to give Chase free drinks and said he was Savannah's hero.

Savannah was incredibly grateful to have someone come to her defense, and there were many positive responses to her story.

According to one commenter, Chase was a "gentleman and a hero." This person also reminded Savannah that she was beautiful and should not allow anyone to convince her otherwise.

According to another social media user, the story showed that we should stop judging people based on their appearance. To this person, the man had demonstrated just how we could make this happen.

Here is a video showing what both Chase and Savannah had to say about the experience.
